For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble.1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Blessed is the one who cares for the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of trouble.
The LORD will protect him and keep him alive, And he shall be called blessed upon the earth; And do not give him over to the desire of his enemies.2The LORD will protect and preserve him; He will bless him in the land and refuse to surrender him to the will of his foes.
The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health.3The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness and restore him from his bed of sickness.
As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You."4I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against You.”
My enemies speak evil against me, "When will he die, and his name perish?"5My enemies say with malice: “When will he die and be forgotten?”
And when he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it.6My visitor speaks falsehood; he gathers slander in his heart; he goes out and spreads it abroad.
All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt, saying,7All who hate me whisper against me; they imagine the worst for me:
"A wicked thing is poured out upon him, That when he lies down, he will not rise up again."8“A vile disease has been poured into him; he will never get up from where he lies!”
Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.9Even my close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, That I may repay them.10But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, that I may repay them.
By this I know that You are pleased with me, Because my enemy does not shout in triumph over me.11By this I know that You delight in me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever.12In my integrity You uphold me and set me in Your presence forever.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
