New American Standard Bible 1995Holman Christian Standard Bible
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble.1For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. Happy is one who cares for the poor; the LORD will save him in a day of adversity.
The LORD will protect him and keep him alive, And he shall be called blessed upon the earth; And do not give him over to the desire of his enemies.2The LORD will keep him and preserve him; he will be blessed in the land. You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies.
The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health.3The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed; You will heal him on the bed where he lies.
As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You."4I said, " LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against You."
My enemies speak evil against me, "When will he die, and his name perish?"5My enemies speak maliciously about me:" When will he die and be forgotten?"
And when he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it.6When one of them comes to visit, he speaks deceitfully; he stores up evil in his heart; he goes out and talks.
All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt, saying,7All who hate me whisper together about me; they plan to harm me."
"A wicked thing is poured out upon him, That when he lies down, he will not rise up again."8Lethal poison has been poured into him, and he won't rise again from where he lies!"
Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.9Even my friend in whom I trusted, one who ate my bread, has raised his heel against me.
But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, That I may repay them.10But You, LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up; then I will repay them.
By this I know that You are pleased with me, Because my enemy does not shout in triumph over me.11By this I know that You delight in me: my enemy does not shout in triumph over me.
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever.12You supported me because of my integrity and set me in Your presence forever.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.13May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praised from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen.
