Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.1Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary2Let the redeemed of the LORD proclaim that He has redeemed them from the hand of the foe
And gathered from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.3and has gathered them from the lands-- from the east and the west, from the north and the south.
They wandered in the wilderness in a desert region; They did not find a way to an inhabited city.4Some wandered in the desolate wilderness, finding no way to a city where they could live.
They were hungry and thirsty; Their soul fainted within them.5They were hungry and thirsty; their spirits failed within them.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses.6Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He rescued them from their distress.
He led them also by a straight way, To go to an inhabited city.7He led them by the right path to go to a city where they could live.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!8Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity.
For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.9For He has satisfied the thirsty and filled the hungry with good things.
There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains,10Others sat in darkness and gloom-- prisoners in cruel chains--
Because they had rebelled against the words of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High.11because they rebelled against God's commands and despised the counsel of the Most High.
Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was none to help.12He broke their spirits with hard labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.13Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their bands apart.14He brought them out of darkness and gloom and broke their chains apart.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!15Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity.
For He has shattered gates of bronze And cut bars of iron asunder.16For He has broken down the bronze gates and cut through the iron bars.
Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.17Fools suffered affliction because of their rebellious ways and their sins.
Their soul abhorred all kinds of food, And they drew near to the gates of death.18They loathed all food and came near the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.19Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them from their distress.
He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.20He sent His word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!21Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity.
Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing.22Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and announce His works with shouts of joy.
Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters;23Others went to sea in ships, conducting trade on the vast waters.
They have seen the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep.24They saw the LORD's works, His wonderful works in the deep.
For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.25He spoke and raised a tempest that stirred up the waves of the sea.
They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul melted away in their misery.26Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths, their courage melting away in anguish,
They reeled and staggered like a drunken man, And were at their wits' end.27they reeled and staggered like drunken men, and all their skill was useless.
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses.28Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress.
He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed.29He stilled the storm to a murmur, and the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven.30They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet. Then He guided them to the harbor they longed for.
Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!31Let them give thanks to the LORD for His faithful love and His wonderful works for all humanity.
Let them extol Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders.32Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people and praise Him in the council of the elders.
He changes rivers into a wilderness And springs of water into a thirsty ground;33He turns rivers into desert, springs of water into thirsty ground,
A fruitful land into a salt waste, Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.34and fruitful land into salty wasteland, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.
He changes a wilderness into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water;35He turns a desert into a pool of water, dry land into springs of water.
And there He makes the hungry to dwell, So that they may establish an inhabited city,36He causes the hungry to settle there, and they establish a city where they can live.
And sow fields and plant vineyards, And gather a fruitful harvest.37They sow fields and plant vineyards that yield a fruitful harvest.
Also He blesses them and they multiply greatly, And He does not let their cattle decrease.38He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their livestock decrease.
When they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, misery and sorrow,39When they are diminished and are humbled by cruel oppression and sorrow,
He pours contempt upon princes And makes them wander in a pathless waste.40He pours contempt on nobles and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland.
But He sets the needy securely on high away from affliction, And makes his families like a flock.41But He lifts the needy out of their suffering and makes their families multiply like flocks.
The upright see it and are glad; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth.42The upright see it and rejoice, and all injustice shuts its mouth.
Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, And consider the lovingkindnesses of the LORD.43Let whoever is wise pay attention to these things and consider the LORD's acts of faithful love.
