Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;1Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess,
He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.2who is faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses was also in God's house.
For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.3For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself!
For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later;5Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken.
but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-- whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.6But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. We are of his house, if in fact we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we take pride in.
Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks!
DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS,8"Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.
WHERE YOUR FATHERS TRIED Me BY TESTING Me, AND SAW MY WORKS FOR FORTY YEARS.9"There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years.
"THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS';10"Therefore, I became provoked at that generation and said, 'Their hearts are always wandering and they have not known my ways.'
AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, 'THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.'"11"As I swore in my anger, 'They will never enter my rest!'"
Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God.
But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.13But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called "Today," that none of you may become hardened by sin's deception.
For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,14For we have become partners with Christ, if in fact we hold our initial confidence firm until the end.
while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME."15As it says, "Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."
For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?16For which ones heard and rebelled? Was it not all who came out of Egypt under Moses' leadership?
And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?17And against whom was God provoked for forty years? Was it not those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient?18And to whom did he swear they would never enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient?
So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.19So we see that they could not enter because of unbelief.
