from thirty years and upward, even to fifty years old, all who enter the service to do the work in the tent of meeting.3from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company to do the work in the tent of meeting.
"This is the work of the descendants of Kohath in the tent of meeting, concerning the most holy things.4This is the service of the Kohathites in the tent of meeting, relating to the most holy things.
"When the camp sets out, Aaron and his sons shall go in and they shall take down the veil of the screen and cover the ark of the testimony with it;5When it is time for the camp to journey, Aaron and his sons must come and take down the screening curtain and cover the ark of the testimony with it.
and they shall lay a covering of porpoise skin on it, and shall spread over it a cloth of pure blue, and shall insert its poles.6Then they must put over it a covering of fine leather and spread over that a cloth entirely of blue, and then they must insert its poles.
"Over the table of the bread of the Presence they shall also spread a cloth of blue and put on it the dishes and the pans and the sacrificial bowls and the jars for the drink offering, and the continual bread shall be on it.7"On the table of the presence they must spread a blue cloth, and put on it the dishes, the pans, the bowls, and the pitchers for pouring, and the Bread of the Presence must be on it continually.
"They shall spread over them a cloth of scarlet material, and cover the same with a covering of porpoise skin, and they shall insert its poles.8They must spread over them a scarlet cloth, and cover the same with a covering of fine leather; and they must insert its poles.
"Then they shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand for the light, along with its lamps and its snuffers, and its trays and all its oil vessels, by which they serve it;9"They must take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand of the light, with its lamps, its wick-trimmers, its trays, and all its oil vessels, with which they service it.
and they shall put it and all its utensils in a covering of porpoise skin, and shall put it on the carrying bars.10Then they must put it with all its utensils in a covering of fine leather, and put it on a carrying beam.
"Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth and cover it with a covering of porpoise skin, and shall insert its poles;11"They must spread a blue cloth on the gold altar, and cover it with a covering of fine leather; and they must insert its poles.
and they shall take all the utensils of service, with which they serve in the sanctuary, and put them in a blue cloth and cover them with a covering of porpoise skin, and put them on the carrying bars.12Then they must take all the utensils of the service, with which they serve in the sanctuary, put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of fine leather, and put them on a carrying beam.
"Then they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth over it.13Also, they must take away the ashes from the altar and spread a purple cloth over it.
"They shall also put on it all its utensils by which they serve in connection with it: the firepans, the forks and shovels and the basins, all the utensils of the altar; and they shall spread a cover of porpoise skin over it and insert its poles.14Then they must place on it all its implements with which they serve there--the trays, the meat forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar--and they must spread on it a covering of fine leather, and then insert its poles.
"When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy objects and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is to set out, after that the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them, so that they will not touch the holy objects and die. These are the things in the tent of meeting which the sons of Kohath are to carry.15"When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is ready to journey, then the Kohathites will come to carry them; but they must not touch any holy thing, or they will die. These are the responsibilities of the Kohathites with the tent of meeting.
"The responsibility of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest is the oil for the light and the fragrant incense and the continual grain offering and the anointing oil-- the responsibility of all the tabernacle and of all that is in it, with the sanctuary and its furnishings."16"The appointed responsibility of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest is for the oil for the light, and the spiced incense, and the daily grain offering, and the anointing oil; he also has the appointed responsibility over all the tabernacle with all that is in it, over the sanctuary and over all its furnishings."
Then the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,17Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron:
"Do not let the tribe of the families of the Kohathites be cut off from among the Levites.18"Do not allow the tribe of the families of the Kohathites to be cut off from among the Levites;
"But do this to them that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy objects: Aaron and his sons shall go in and assign each of them to his work and to his load;19but in order that they will live and not die when they approach the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and his sons will go in and appoint each man to his service and his responsibility.
but they shall not go in to see the holy objects even for a moment, or they will die."20But the Kohathites are not to go in to watch while the holy things are being covered, or they will die."
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,21Then the LORD spoke to Moses:
"Take a census of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers' households, by their families;22"Also take a census of the Gershonites, by their clans and by their families.

"This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and in carrying:24This is the service of the families of Gershonites, as they serve and carry it.
they shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle and the tent of meeting with its covering and the covering of porpoise skin that is on top of it, and the screen for the doorway of the tent of meeting,25They must carry the curtains for the tabernacle and the tent of meeting with its covering, the covering of fine leather that is over it, the curtains for the entrance of the tent of meeting,

So they are to serve.
"All the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their loads and in all their work, shall be performed at the command of Aaron and his sons; and you shall assign to them as a duty all their loads.27"All the service of the Gershonites, whether carrying loads or for any of their work, will be at the direction of Aaron and his sons. You will assign them all their tasks as their responsibility.
"This is the service of the families of the sons of the Gershonites in the tent of meeting, and their duties shall be under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.28This is the service of the families of the Gershonites concerning the tent of meeting. Their responsibilities will be under the authority of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.

and the pillars around the court and their sockets and their pegs and their cords, with all their equipment and with all their service; and you shall assign each man by name the items he is to carry.32and the posts of the surrounding courtyard with their sockets, tent pegs, and ropes, along with all their furnishings and everything for their service.
