| 1Now it happened that He was passing through some grainfields on a Sabbath; and His disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating the grain. | 1One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels. |
| 2But some of the Pharisees said, "Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?" | 2Some of the Pharisees asked, "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?" |
| 3And Jesus answering them said, "Have you not even read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him, | 3Jesus answered them, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? |
| 4how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the consecrated bread which is not lawful for any to eat except the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?" | 4He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions." |
| 5And He was saying to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." | 5Then Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." |

| 8But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man with the withered hand, "Get up and come forward!" | 9And Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to destroy it?" | 9Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?" |
| 10After looking around at them all, He said to him, "Stretch out your hand!" And he did so; and his hand was restored. | 10He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He did so, and his hand was completely restored. |
| 11But they themselves were filled with rage, and discussed together what they might do to Jesus. | 11But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus. |

| 23"Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets. | 23"Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets. |
| 24"But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full. | 24"But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. |

| 42"Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye. | 42How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. |
| 43"For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit. | 43"No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. |

When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. |
| 49"But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great." | 49But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." |
