New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.5The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
"Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you."7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.8So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.9Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.
Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me."10Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."
Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.
And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,12When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money,
and said, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.'13telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.'
"And if this should come to the governor's ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble."14If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble."
And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.15So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
