Then the LORD answered Job: 1And the LORD said to Job:
"Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!" 2“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer.”
Then Job answered the LORD: 3Then Job answered the LORD:
"Indeed, I am completely unworthy--how could I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth to silence myself. 4“Behold, I am insignificant. How can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.
I have spoken once, but I cannot answer; twice, but I will say no more." 5I have spoken once, but I have no answer—twice, but I have nothing to add.”
Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: 6Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:
"Get ready for a difficult task like a man. I will question you and you will inform me! 7“Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.
Would you indeed annul my justice? Would you declare me guilty so that you might be right? 8Would you really annul My justice? Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?
Do you have an arm as powerful as God's, and can you thunder with a voice like his? 9Do you have an arm like God’s? Can you thunder with a voice like His?
Adorn yourself, then, with majesty and excellency, and clothe yourself with glory and honor! 10Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.
Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low; 11Unleash the fury of your wrath; look on every proud man and bring him low.
Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot! 12Look on every proud man and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.
Hide them in the dust together, imprison them in the grave. 13Bury them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.
Then I myself will acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you. 14Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can save you.
"Look now at Behemoth, which I made as I made you; it eats grass like the ox. 15Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.
Look at its strength in its loins, and its power in the muscles of its belly. 16See the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly.
It makes its tail stiff like a cedar, the sinews of its thighs are tightly wound. 17His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.
Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like bars of iron. 18His bones are tubes of bronze; his limbs are rods of iron.
It ranks first among the works of God, the One who made it has furnished it with a sword. 19He is the foremost of God’s works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.
For the hills bring it food, where all the wild animals play. 20The hills yield him their produce, while all the beasts of the field play nearby.
Under the lotus trees it lies, in the secrecy of the reeds and the marsh. 21He lies under the lotus plants, hidden among the reeds of the marsh.
The lotus trees conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream conceal it. 22The lotus plants conceal him in their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.
If the river rages, it is not disturbed, it is secure, though the Jordan should surge up to its mouth. 23Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains secure, though the Jordan surges to his mouth.
Can anyone catch it by its eyes, or pierce its nose with a snare? 24Can anyone capture him as he looks on, or pierce his nose with a snare?
