Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out its seven pillars. 1Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars.
She has prepared her meat, she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table. 2She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
She has sent out her female servants; she calls out on the highest places of the city. 3She has sent out her maidservants; she calls out from the heights of the city.
"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding. 4“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.
"Come, eat some of my food, and drink some of the wine I have mixed. 5“Come, eat my bread and drink the wine I have mixed.
Abandon your foolish ways so that you may live, and proceed in the way of understanding." 6Leave your folly behind, and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.”
Whoever corrects a mocker is asking for insult; whoever reproves a wicked person receives abuse. 7He who corrects a mocker brings shame on himself; he who rebukes a wicked man taints himself.
Do not reprove a mocker or he will hate you; reprove a wise person and he will love you. 8Do not rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise person, and he will become wiser still; teach a righteous person and he will add to his learning. 9Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.
The beginning of wisdom is to fear the LORD, and acknowledging the Holy One is understanding. 10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
For because of me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. 11For through wisdom your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage, but if you are a mocker, you alone must bear it. 12If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage; but if you scoff, you alone will bear the consequences.
The woman called Folly is brash, she is naive and does not know anything. 13The woman named Folly is loud; she is naive and knows nothing.
So she sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, 14She sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the heights of the city,
calling out to those who are passing by her in the way, who go straight on their way. 15calling out to those who pass by, who make their paths straight.
"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding. 16“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.
"Stolen waters are sweet, and food obtained in secret is pleasant!" 17“Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is tasty!”
But they do not realize that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave. 18But they do not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
