Proverbs 9
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out its seven pillars. 1Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns.
She has prepared her meat, she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table. 2She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.
She has sent out her female servants; she calls out on the highest places of the city. 3She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.
"Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding. 4“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,
"Come, eat some of my food, and drink some of the wine I have mixed. 5“Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.
Abandon your foolish ways so that you may live, and proceed in the way of understanding." 6Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”
Whoever corrects a mocker is asking for insult; whoever reproves a wicked person receives abuse. 7Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.
Do not reprove a mocker or he will hate you; reprove a wise person and he will love you. 8So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.
Give instruction to a wise person, and he will become wiser still; teach a righteous person and he will add to his learning. 9Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.
The beginning of wisdom is to fear the LORD, and acknowledging the Holy One is understanding. 10Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
For because of me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. 11Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage, but if you are a mocker, you alone must bear it. 12If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer. Folly Calls for a Hearing
The woman called Folly is brash, she is naive and does not know anything. 13The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it.
So she sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, 14She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city.
calling out to those who are passing by her in the way, who go straight on their way. 15She calls out to men going by who are minding their own business.
"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here," she says to those who lack understanding. 16“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,
"Stolen waters are sweet, and food obtained in secret is pleasant!" 17“Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!”
But they do not realize that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave. 18But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.
