If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.1Ἐὰν ταῖς γλώσσαις τῶν ἀνθρώπων λαλῶ καὶ τῶν ἀγγέλων ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω γέγονα χαλκὸς ἠχῶν κύμβαλον ἀλαλάζον
And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.2καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω προφητείαν καὶ εἰδῶ τὰ μυστήρια πάντα καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γνῶσιν καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω πᾶσαν τὴν πίστιν ὥστε ὄρη μεθιστάναι ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω οὐθέν εἰμι
If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, but do not have love, I receive no benefit.
Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up.4 ἀγάπη μακροθυμεῖ χρηστεύεται ἀγάπη οὐ ζηλοῖ ἀγάπη οὐ περπερεύεται οὐ φυσιοῦται
It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful.5οὐκ ἀσχημονεῖ οὐ ζητεῖ τὰ ἑαυτῆς οὐ παροξύνεται οὐ λογίζεται τὸ κακόν
It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth.6οὐ χαίρει ἐπὶ τῇ ἀδικίᾳ συνχαίρει δὲ τῇ ἀληθείᾳ
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 7πάντα στέγει πάντα πιστεύει πάντα ἐλπίζει πάντα ὑπομένει
Love never ends. But if there are prophecies, they will be set aside; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside.8 ἀγάπη οὐδέποτε πίπτει εἴτε δὲ προφητεῖαι καταργηθήσονται εἴτε γλῶσσαι παύσονται εἴτε γνῶσις καταργηθήσεται
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part,9ἐκ μέρους γὰρ γινώσκομεν καὶ ἐκ μέρους προφητεύομεν
but when what is perfect comes, the partial will be set aside.10ὅταν δὲ ἔλθῃ τὸ τέλειον τὸ ἐκ μέρους καταργηθήσεται
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. But when I became an adult, I set aside childish ways.11Ὅτε ἤμην νήπιος ἐλάλουν ὡς νήπιος ἐφρόνουν ὡς νήπιος ἐλογιζόμην ὡς νήπιος ὅτε γέγονα ἀνήρ κατήργηκα τὰ τοῦ νηπίου
For now we see in a mirror indirectly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known.12βλέπομεν γὰρ ἄρτι δι’ ἐσόπτρου ἐν αἰνίγματι τότε δὲ πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον ἄρτι γινώσκω ἐκ μέρους τότε δὲ ἐπιγνώσομαι καθὼς καὶ ἐπεγνώσθην
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. 13Νυνὶ δὲ μένει πίστις ἐλπίς ἀγάπη τὰ τρία ταῦτα μείζων δὲ τούτων ἀγάπη
