NET BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
"Call now! Is there anyone who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn? 1"Call now, is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn?
For wrath kills the foolish person, and anger slays the silly one. 2"For anger slays the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple.
I myself have seen the fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his place of residence. 3"I have seen the foolish taking root, And I cursed his abode immediately.
His children are far from safety, and they are crushed at the place where judgment is rendered, nor is there anyone to deliver them. 4"His sons are far from safety, They are even oppressed in the gate, And there is no deliverer.
The hungry eat up his harvest, and take it even from behind the thorns, and the thirsty swallow up their fortune. 5"His harvest the hungry devour And take it to a place of thorns, And the schemer is eager for their wealth.
For evil does not come up from the dust, nor does trouble spring up from the ground, 6"For affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble sprout from the ground,
but people are born to trouble, as surely as the sparks fly upward. 7For man is born for trouble, As sparks fly upward.
"But as for me, I would seek God, and to God I would set forth my case. 8"But as for me, I would seek God, And I would place my cause before God;
He does great and unsearchable things, marvelous things without number; 9Who does great and unsearchable things, Wonders without number.
he gives rain on the earth, and sends water on the fields; 10"He gives rain on the earth And sends water on the fields,
he sets the lowly on high, that those who mourn are raised to safety. 11So that He sets on high those who are lowly, And those who mourn are lifted to safety.
He frustrates the plans of the crafty so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had planned! 12"He frustrates the plotting of the shrewd, So that their hands cannot attain success.
He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the cunning is brought to a quick end. 13"He captures the wise by their own shrewdness, And the advice of the cunning is quickly thwarted.
They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope about in the noontime as if it were night. 14"By day they meet with darkness, And grope at noon as in the night.
So he saves from the sword that comes from their mouth, even the poor from the hand of the powerful. 15"But He saves from the sword of their mouth, And the poor from the hand of the mighty.
Thus the poor have hope, and iniquity shuts its mouth. 16"So the helpless has hope, And unrighteousness must shut its mouth.
"Therefore, blessed is the man whom God corrects, so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. 17"Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves, So do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
For he wounds, but he also bandages; he strikes, but his hands also heal. 18"For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, and His hands also heal.
He will deliver you from six calamities; yes, in seven no evil will touch you. 19"From six troubles He will deliver you, Even in seven evil will not touch you.
In time of famine he will redeem you from death, and in time of war from the power of the sword. 20"In famine He will redeem you from death, And in war from the power of the sword.
You will be protected from malicious gossip, and will not be afraid of the destruction when it comes. 21"You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, And you will not be afraid of violence when it comes.
You will laugh at destruction and famine and need not be afraid of the beasts of the earth. 22"You will laugh at violence and famine, And you will not be afraid of wild beasts.
For you will have a pact with the stones of the field, and the wild animals will be at peace with you. 23"For you will be in league with the stones of the field, And the beasts of the field will be at peace with you.
And you will know that your home will be secure, and when you inspect your domains, you will not be missing anything. 24"You will know that your tent is secure, For you will visit your abode and fear no loss.
You will also know that your children will be numerous, and your descendants like the grass of the earth. 25"You will know also that your descendants will be many, And your offspring as the grass of the earth.
You will come to your grave in a full age, As stacks of grain are harvested in their season. 26"You will come to the grave in full vigor, Like the stacking of grain in its season.
Look, we have investigated this, so it is true. Hear it, and apply it for your own good." 27"Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is. Hear it, and know for yourself."
