NET BibleNew International Version
For the music director; to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm of Asaph, a song. God has revealed himself in Judah; in Israel his reputation is great. 1For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song. God is renowned in Judah; in Israel his name is great.
He lives in Salem; he dwells in Zion. 2His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.
There he shattered the arrows, the shield, the sword, and the rest of the weapons of war. (Selah) 3There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.
You shine brightly and reveal your majesty, as you descend from the hills where you killed your prey. 4You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game.
The bravehearted were plundered; they "fell asleep." All the warriors were helpless. 5The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands.
At the sound of your battle cry, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse "fell asleep." 6At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still.
You are awesome! Yes, you! Who can withstand your intense anger? 7It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?
From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. The earth was afraid and silent 8From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet--
when God arose to execute judgment, and to deliver all the oppressed of the earth. (Selah) 9when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land.
Certainly your angry judgment upon men will bring you praise; you reveal your anger in full measure. 10Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.
Make vows to the LORD your God and repay them! Let all those who surround him bring tribute to the awesome one! 11Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared.
He humbles princes; the kings of the earth regard him as awesome. 12He breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth.
