NIV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionInternational Standard Version
These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,1"Now these are the commands, decrees, and ordinances that the LORD commanded me to teach you. Obey them in the land you are entering to possess,
so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.2so that you, your children, and your grandchildren may fear the LORD your God. Keep all his decrees and commandments that I'm giving you every day of your life, so you may live a long time.
Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.3Listen, Israel! Be careful to obey, so that life may go well for you and that you may increase greatly. Just as the LORD God of your ancestors told you, you'll have a land flowing with milk and honey.
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.4"Listen, Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone.
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.5You are to love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.6Let these words that I'm commanding you today be always on your heart.
Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.7Teach them repeatedly to your children. Talk about them while sitting in your house or walking on the road, and as you lie down or get up.
Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.8Tie them as reminders on your forearm, bind them on your forehead,
Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.9and write them on the door frames of your house and on your gates."
When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you--a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build,10"When the LORD your God brings you to the land that he promised to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, he will give you large and beautiful cities that you didn't build,
houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant--then when you eat and are satisfied,11houses filled with every good thing that you didn't supply, wells that you didn't dig, and vineyards and olive groves that you didn't plant. When you eat and are satisfied,
be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.12be careful not to forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and slavery.
Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.13Fear the LORD your God, serve him, and make your oaths in his name.
Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you;14Do not follow other gods, from the gods of the peoples around you.
for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.15For the LORD your God who is among you is a jealous God. He will turn his anger against you and destroy you from the surface of the land."
Do not put the LORD your God to the test as you did at Massah.16"Don't test the LORD your God like you did in Massah.
Be sure to keep the commands of the LORD your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you.17Be sure to observe the commands of the LORD your God, his testimonies and his decrees that he gave you.
Do what is right and good in the LORD's sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the LORD promised on oath to your ancestors,18Do what is good and right in the LORD's sight so it may go well with you. Then you'll enter and possess the good land that the LORD your God promised to your ancestors,
thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the LORD said.19expelling all your enemies before you, as the LORD said."
In the future, when your son asks you, "What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?"20"When your son asks you in the future, 'What is the meaning of the instructions, decrees, and ordinances that the LORD our God commanded you?'
tell him: "We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.21tell him, 'We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with great power.
Before our eyes the LORD sent signs and wonders--great and terrible--on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household.22Before our very eyes, the LORD did great and terrible signs and wonders in Egypt, to Pharaoh, and to his entire household.
But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors.23But as for us, he brought us out from there to bring us into the land and give it to us, as he promised our ancestors.
The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.24Then the LORD commanded us to observe all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God for our own good, so that he may keep us alive as we are today.
And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness."25It will be credited as righteousness for us, if we're careful to obey the entire Law in the presence of the LORD our God, as he commanded.'"
