1"Make an altar of acacia wood for burning incense.1"You are to make an altar for burning incense. You are to make it of acacia wood.
2It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high --its horns of one piece with it.2It is to be a square, one cubit long and one cubit wide, and it is to be two cubits high, with its horns of one piece with it.
3Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it.3You are to overlay it with pure gold, its top, its sides all around, and its horns, and you are to make a molding of gold all around it.
4Make two gold rings for the altar below the molding--two on each of the opposite sides--to hold the poles used to carry it.4"You are to make two gold rings for it under its molding. You are to make them on its two opposite sides, and they are to be holders for poles by which to carry it.
5Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.5You are to make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.
6Put the altar in front of the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law--before the atonement cover that is over the tablets of the covenant law--where I will meet with you.6You are to put the altar in front of the curtain that is over the Ark of the Testimony, in front of the Mercy Seat that is over the Testimony where I'll meet with you.
7"Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps.7Aaron is to offer fragrant incense on it. Every morning when he trims the lamps he is to offer it,
8He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the LORD for the generations to come.8and when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he is to offer it as a continual incense offering in the LORD's presence throughout your generations.
9Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.9You are not to offer strange incense, a burnt offering, or a grain offering on it, nor are you to pour out a libation on it.
10Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the LORD."10Each year Aaron is to make atonement on its horns with the blood of the sin offering of atonement. He is to make atonement on it each year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the LORD."
11Then the LORD said to Moses,11The LORD told Moses,
12"When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the LORD a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.12"When you take a census of the Israelis to register them, each is to give a ransom for himself to the LORD when they're registered so there won't be a plague among them when they're registered.
13Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the LORD.13This is what everyone who is registered is to give: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel weighs 20 gerahs), half a shekel as a contribution to the LORD.
14All who cross over, those twenty years old or more, are to give an offering to the LORD.14All who are registered, 20 years of age and older, are to give a contribution to the LORD.
15The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives.15The rich person is not to give more, nor is the poor person to give less than the half shekel, when you give a contribution to the LORD to make atonement for yourselves.
16Receive the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, making atonement for your lives."16You are to take the atonement money from the Israelis and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting, and it is to be a memorial for the Israelis in the LORD's presence to make atonement for yourselves."
17Then the LORD said to Moses,17The LORD told Moses,
18"Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it.18"You are to make a bronze basin with a bronze base for washing. You are to pace it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, put water in it,
19Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it.19and Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and their feet from it.
20Whenever they enter the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting a food offering to the LORD,20When they enter the Tent of Meeting or when they approach the altar to minister to make an offering by fire to the LORD, they are to wash with water so they don't die.
21they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come."21They are to wash their hands and their feet so that they don't die, and it is to be for them a perpetual ordinance for Aaron and his seed from generation to generation."
22Then the LORD said to Moses,22The LORD told Moses,
23"Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant calamus,23"You are to take for yourself the finest spices: 500 shekels by weight of liquid myrrh, half as much fragrant cinnamon (250 shekels), 250 shekels of fragrant reeds,
24500 shekels of cassia--all according to the sanctuary shekel--and a hin of olive oil.24500 shekels of cassia—all according to the shekel of the sanctuary—and a hin of olive oil.
25Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil.25You are to make them into a holy anointing oil, a perfume mixture made by a perfumer. It is to be a holy anointing oil.
26Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law,26You are to use it to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the Ark of the Testimony,
27the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense,27the table and all its utensils, the lamp stand and its utensils, the altar of incense,
28the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand.28the altar for burnt offerings and all its utensils, and the basin and its base.
29You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy.29You are to consecrate them and they are to be most holy. Whatever touches them is to be holy.
30"Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.30You are to anoint Aaron and his sons, and you are to consecrate them to serve as my priests.
31Say to the Israelites, 'This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come.31You are to address the Israelis and tell them, 'This is to be holy anointing oil for me from generation to generation.
32Do not pour it on anyone else's body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred.32It is not to be poured out on a person's body, nor are you to make anything like it with similar formulations. It is holy, and it is to be holy to you.
33Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.'"33Anyone who mixes anything like it or who puts any of it on an unqualified person is to be cut off from his people.'"
34Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take fragrant spices--gum resin, onycha and galbanum--and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts,34The LORD told Moses, "Take for yourself spices: stacte, onycha, galbanum, and spices with pure frankincense, all in equal amounts.
35and make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred.35You are to make it into a fragrant incense, expertly blended, pure, and holy.
36Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.36You are to grind some of it fine, and put some before the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting where I will meet with you. It is to be most holy to you.
37Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the LORD.37You are not to make the incense that you make in this formulation for your own use. It is to be holy to the LORD for you.
38Whoever makes incense like it to enjoy its fragrance must be cut off from their people."38Anyone who makes anything like it to use it as perfume is to be cut off from his people."
