As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.1And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.2And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
"Truly I tell you," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others.3And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:
All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."4For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said,5And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
"As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down."6As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
"Teacher," they asked, "when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?"7And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?
He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them.8And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away."9But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.
Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.10Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.11And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
"But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name.12But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
And so you will bear testimony to me.13And it shall turn to you for a testimony.
But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.14Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:
For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.16And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.
Everyone will hate you because of me.17And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
But not a hair of your head will perish.18But there shall not an hair of your head perish.
Stand firm, and you will win life.19In your patience possess ye your souls.
"When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.20And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city.21Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.22For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people.23But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.24And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.25And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.26Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.27And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."28And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
He told them this parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees.29And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near.30When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.31So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
"Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.32Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.33Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
"Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.34And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.35For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."36Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives,37And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.38And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.
