Psalm 10
NIV Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionNET Bible
Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?1Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you pay no attention during times of trouble?
In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.2The wicked arrogantly chase the oppressed; the oppressed are trapped by the schemes the wicked have dreamed up.
He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.3Yes, the wicked man boasts because he gets what he wants; the one who robs others curses and rejects the LORD.
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.4The wicked man is so arrogant he always thinks, "God won't hold me accountable; he doesn't care."
His ways are always prosperous; your laws are rejected by him; he sneers at all his enemies.5He is secure at all times. He has no regard for your commands; he disdains all his enemies.
He says to himself, "Nothing will ever shake me." He swears, "No one will ever do me harm."6He says to himself, "I will never be upended, because I experience no calamity."
His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.7His mouth is full of curses and deceptive, harmful words; his tongue injures and destroys.
He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims;8He waits in ambush near the villages; in hidden places he kills the innocent. His eyes look for some unfortunate victim.
like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.9He lies in ambush in a hidden place, like a lion in a thicket; he lies in ambush, waiting to catch the oppressed; he catches the oppressed by pulling in his net.
His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.10His victims are crushed and beaten down; they are trapped in his sturdy nets.
He says to himself, "God will never notice; he covers his face and never sees."11He says to himself, "God overlooks it; he does not pay attention; he never notices."
Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.12Rise up, LORD! O God, strike him down! Do not forget the oppressed!
Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"?13Why does the wicked man reject God? He says to himself, "You will not hold me accountable."
But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.14You have taken notice, for you always see one who inflicts pain and suffering. The unfortunate victim entrusts his cause to you; you deliver the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked man; call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out.15Break the arm of the wicked and evil man! Hold him accountable for his wicked deeds, which he thought you would not discover.
The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.16The LORD rules forever! The nations are driven out of his land.
You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,17LORD, you have heard the request of the oppressed; you make them feel secure because you listen to their prayer.
defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.18You defend the fatherless and oppressed, so that mere mortals may no longer terrorize them.
