Psalm 10
NIV Parallel HCSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionHolman Christian Standard Bible
Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?1 LORD, why do You stand so far away? Why do You hide in times of trouble?
In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.2In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue the afflicted; let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.
He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.3For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the LORD.
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.4In all his scheming, the wicked arrogantly thinks:" There is no accountability, since God does not exist."
His ways are always prosperous; your laws are rejected by him; he sneers at all his enemies.5His ways are always secure; Your lofty judgments are beyond his sight; he scoffs at all his adversaries.
He says to himself, "Nothing will ever shake me." He swears, "No one will ever do me harm."6He says to himself, "I will never be moved-- from generation to generation without calamity."
His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.7Cursing, deceit, and violence fill his mouth; trouble and malice are under his tongue.
He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims;8He waits in ambush near the villages; he kills the innocent in secret places. His eyes are on the lookout for the helpless;
like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.9he lurks in secret like a lion in a thicket. He lurks in order to seize the afflicted; he seizes the afflicted and drags him in his net.
His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.10So he is oppressed and beaten down; the helpless fall because of his strength.
He says to himself, "God will never notice; he covers his face and never sees."11He says to himself, "God has forgotten; He hides His face and will never see."
Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.12Rise up, LORD God! Lift up Your hand. Do not forget the afflicted.
Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, "He won't call me to account"?13Why has the wicked person despised God? He says to himself, "You will not demand an account."
But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.14But You Yourself have seen trouble and grief, observing it in order to take the matter into Your hands. The helpless entrusts himself to You; You are a helper of the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked man; call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out.15Break the arm of the wicked and evil person; call his wickedness into account until nothing remains of it.
The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.16The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations will perish from His land.
You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,17 LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully,
defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.18doing justice for the fatherless and the oppressed so that men of the earth may terrify them no more.
