| 1Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. | 1Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! |
| 2Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. | 2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! |
| 3When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. | 3When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. |
| 4For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. | 4Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude |
| 5Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD." And you forgave the guilt of my sin. | 5Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me!
