And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:1Then the LORD said to Moses,
“Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, everyone who has a discharge, and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse.2“Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone with a skin disease, anyone who has a bodily discharge, and anyone who is defiled by a dead body.
You shall put out both male and female; you shall put them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camps in the midst of which I dwell.”3You must send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them.”
And the children of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the LORD spoke to Moses, so the children of Israel did.4So the Israelites did this, sending such people outside the camp. They did just as the LORD had instructed Moses.
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,5And the LORD said to Moses,
“Speak to the children of Israel: ‘When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit in unfaithfulness against the LORD, and that person is guilty,6“Tell the Israelites that when a man or woman acts unfaithfully against the LORD by committing any sin against another, that person is guilty
then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass in full, plus one-fifth of it, and give it to the one he has wronged.7and must confess the sin he has committed. He must make full restitution, add a fifth to its value, and give all this to the one he has wronged.
But if the man has no relative to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for the wrong must go to the LORD for the priest, in addition to the ram of the atonement with which atonement is made for him.8But if the man has no relative to whom restitution can be made for the wrong, the restitution belongs to the LORD and must be given to the priest along with the ram of atonement, by which the atonement is made for him.
Every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his.9Every sacred contribution the Israelites bring to the priest shall belong to him.
And every man’s holy things shall be his; whatever any man gives the priest shall be his.’ ”10Each man’s sacred gifts are his own, but whatever he gives to the priest will belong to the priest.”
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,11Then the LORD said to Moses,
“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘If any man’s wife goes astray and behaves unfaithfully toward him,12“Speak to the Israelites and tell them that if any man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him
and a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and it is concealed that she has defiled herself, and there was no witness against her, nor was she caught—13by sleeping with another man, and it is concealed from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she was not caught in the act),
if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself—14and if a feeling of jealousy comes over her husband and he suspects his wife who has defiled herself—or if a feeling of jealousy comes over him and he suspects her even though she has not defiled herself—
then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. He shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing iniquity to remembrance.15then he is to bring his wife to the priest. He must also bring for her an offering of a tenth of an ephah of barley flour. He is not to pour oil over it or put frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, an offering of memorial as a reminder of iniquity.
‘And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD.16The priest is to bring the wife forward and have her stand before the LORD.
The priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water.17Then he is to take some holy water in a clay jar and put some of the dust from the tabernacle floor into the water.
Then the priest shall stand the woman before the LORD, uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse.18After the priest has the woman stand before the LORD, he is to let down her hair and place in her hands the grain offering of memorial, which is the grain offering for jealousy. The priest is to hold the bitter water that brings a curse.
And the priest shall put her under oath, and say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone astray to uncleanness while under your husband’s authority, be free from this bitter water that brings a curse.19And he is to put the woman under oath and say to her, ‘If no other man has slept with you and you have not gone astray and become defiled while under your husband’s authority, may you be immune to this bitter water that brings a curse.
But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has lain with you”—20But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority and have defiled yourself and lain carnally with a man other than your husband’—
then the priest shall put the woman under the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman—“the LORD make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the LORD makes your thigh rot and your belly swell;21and the priest shall have the woman swear under the oath of the curse—‘then may the LORD make you an attested curse among your people by making your thigh shrivel and your belly swell.
and may this water that causes the curse go into your stomach, and make your belly swell and your thigh rot.” ‘Then the woman shall say, “Amen, so be it.”22May this water that brings a curse enter your stomach and cause your belly to swell and your thigh to shrivel.’ Then the woman is to say, ‘Amen, Amen.’
‘Then the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall scrape them off into the bitter water.23And the priest shall write these curses on a scroll and wash them off into the bitter water.
And he shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter her to become bitter.24He is to have the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and it will enter her and cause her bitter suffering.
Then the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, shall wave the offering before the LORD, and bring it to the altar;25The priest shall take from her hand the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the LORD, and bring it to the altar.
and the priest shall take a handful of the offering, as its memorial portion, burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water.26Then the priest is to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial portion and burn it on the altar; after that he is to have the woman drink the water.
When he has made her drink the water, then it shall be, if she has defiled herself and behaved unfaithfully toward her husband, that the water that brings a curse will enter her and become bitter, and her belly will swell, her thigh will rot, and the woman will become a curse among her people.27When he has made her drink the water, if she has defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, then the water that brings a curse will enter her and cause bitter suffering; her belly will swell, her thigh will shrivel, and she will become accursed among her people.
But if the woman has not defiled herself, and is clean, then she shall be free and may conceive children.28But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, she will be unaffected and able to conceive children.
‘This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, while under her husband’s authority, goes astray and defiles herself,29This is the law of jealousy when a wife goes astray and defiles herself while under her husband’s authority,
or when the spirit of jealousy comes upon a man, and he becomes jealous of his wife; then he shall stand the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute all this law upon her.30or when a feeling of jealousy comes over a husband and he suspects his wife. He is to have the woman stand before the LORD, and the priest is to apply to her this entire law.
Then the man shall be free from iniquity, but that woman shall bear her guilt.’ ”31The husband will be free from guilt, but the woman shall bear her iniquity.”
