NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said:1And the LORD said to Job:
“Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”2“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”
Then Job answered the LORD and said:3Then Job answered the LORD and said:
“Behold, I am vile; What shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth.4“Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.
Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”5I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.”
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:6Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:
“Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me:7“Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me.
“Would you indeed annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?8Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?
Have you an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like His?9Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, And array yourself with glory and beauty.10“Adorn yourself with majesty and dignity; clothe yourself with glory and splendor.
Disperse the rage of your wrath; Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him.11Pour out the overflowings of your anger, and look on everyone who is proud and abase him.
Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low; Tread down the wicked in their place.12Look on everyone who is proud and bring him low and tread down the wicked where they stand.
Hide them in the dust together, Bind their faces in hidden darkness.13Hide them all in the dust together; bind their faces in the world below.
Then I will also confess to you That your own right hand can save you.14Then will I also acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you.
“Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox.15“Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox.
See now, his strength is in his hips, And his power is in his stomach muscles.16Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly.
He moves his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.17He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together.
His bones are like beams of bronze, His ribs like bars of iron.18His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron.
He is the first of the ways of God; Only He who made him can bring near His sword.19“He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword!
Surely the mountains yield food for him, And all the beasts of the field play there.20For the mountains yield food for him where all the wild beasts play.
He lies under the lotus trees, In a covert of reeds and marsh.21Under the lotus plants he lies, in the shelter of the reeds and in the marsh.
The lotus trees cover him with their shade; The willows by the brook surround him.22For his shade the lotus trees cover him; the willows of the brook surround him.
Indeed the river may rage, Yet he is not disturbed; He is confident, though the Jordan gushes into his mouth,23Behold, if the river is turbulent he is not frightened; he is confident though Jordan rushes against his mouth.
Though he takes it in his eyes, Or one pierces his nose with a snare.24Can one take him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a snare?
