But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:1But understand this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,2For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,3unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good,
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,4treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God.
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!5They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these.
For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,6For some of these insinuate themselves into households and captivate weak women who are overwhelmed with sins and led along by various passions.
always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.7Such women are always seeking instruction, yet never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;8And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people--who have warped minds and are disqualified in the faith--also oppose the truth.
but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.9But they will not go much further, for their foolishness will be obvious to everyone, just like it was with Jannes and Jambres.
But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance,10You, however, have followed my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my endurance,
persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.11as well as the persecutions and sufferings that happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra. I endured these persecutions and the Lord delivered me from them all.
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.12Now in fact all who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.13But evil people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves.
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,14You, however, must continue in the things you have learned and are confident about. You know who taught you
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.15and how from infancy you have known the holy writings, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,16Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.17that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work.
