New King James VersionNET Bible
“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the LORD your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess,1Now these are the commandments, statutes, and ordinances that the LORD your God instructed me to teach you so that you may carry them out in the land where you are headed
that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.2and that you may so revere the LORD your God that you will keep all his statutes and commandments that I am giving you--you, your children, and your grandchildren--all your lives, to prolong your days.
Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’3Pay attention, Israel, and be careful to do this so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in number--as the LORD, God of your ancestors, said to you, you will have a land flowing with milk and honey.
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!4Listen, Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.5You must love the LORD your God with your whole mind, your whole being, and all your strength.
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.6These words I am commanding you today must be kept in mind,
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.7and you must teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.8You should tie them as a reminder on your forearm and fasten them as symbols on your forehead.
You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.9Inscribe them on the doorframes of your houses and gates.
“So it shall be, when the LORD your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build,10Then when the LORD your God brings you to the land he promised your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you--a land with large, fine cities you did not build,
houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant—when you have eaten and are full—11houses filled with choice things you did not accumulate, hewn out cisterns you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant--and you eat your fill,
then beware, lest you forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.12be careful not to forget the LORD who brought you out of Egypt, that place of slavery.
You shall fear the LORD your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name.13You must revere the LORD your God, serve him, and take oaths using only his name.
You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you14You must not go after other gods, those of the surrounding peoples,
(for the LORD your God is a jealous God among you), lest the anger of the LORD your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth.15for the LORD your God, who is present among you, is a jealous God and his anger will erupt against you and remove you from the land.
“You shall not tempt the LORD your God as you tempted Him in Massah.16You must not put the LORD your God to the test as you did at Massah.
You shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you.17Keep his commandments very carefully, as well as the stipulations and statutes he commanded you to observe.
And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land of which the LORD swore to your fathers,18Do whatever is proper and good before the LORD so that it may go well with you and that you may enter and occupy the good land that he promised your ancestors,
to cast out all your enemies from before you, as the LORD has spoken.19and that you may drive out all your enemies just as the LORD said.
“When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments which the LORD our God has commanded you?’20When your children ask you later on, "What are the stipulations, statutes, and ordinances that the LORD our God commanded you?"
then you shall say to your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand;21you must say to them, "We were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt in a powerful way.
and the LORD showed signs and wonders before our eyes, great and severe, against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household.22And he brought signs and great, devastating wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on his whole family before our very eyes.
Then He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He swore to our fathers.23He delivered us from there so that he could give us the land he had promised our ancestors.
And the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day.24The LORD commanded us to obey all these statutes and to revere him so that it may always go well for us and he may preserve us, as he has to this day.
Then it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us.’25We will be innocent if we carefully keep all these commandments before the LORD our God, just as he demands."
