Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.11and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel.12After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor.13Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,
Azor begot Zadok, Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud.14Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud,
Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob.15Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,
And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.16and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.17Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.18This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.19Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”23"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us").
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.25But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
