Psalm 129
NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
1From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me. Let all Israel repeat this:1“Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth”— let Israel now say—
2From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me.2“Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.
3My back is covered with cuts, as if a farmer had plowed long furrows.3The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.”
4But the LORD is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly.4The LORD is righteous; he has cut the cords of the wicked.
5May all who hate Jerusalem be turned back in shameful defeat.5May all who hate Zion be put to shame and turned backward!
6May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop, turning yellow when only half grown,6Let them be like the grass on the housetops, which withers before it grows up,
7ignored by the harvester, despised by the binder.7with which the reaper does not fill his hand nor the binder of sheaves his arms,
8And may those who pass by refuse to give them this blessing: “The LORD bless you; we bless you in the LORD’s name.”8nor do those who pass by say, “The blessing of the LORD be upon you! We bless you in the name of the LORD!”
