So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in union with the Messiah Jesus.
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.2For the Spirit's law of life in the Messiah Jesus has set me free from the Law of sin and death.
The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.3For what the Law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did. By sending his own Son in the form of humanity, he condemned sin by being incarnate,
He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.4so that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not live according to human nature but according to the Spirit.
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.6To focus our minds on the human nature leads to death, but to focus our minds on the Spirit leads to life and peace.
For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.7That is why the mind that focuses on human nature is hostile toward God. It refuses to submit to the authority of God's Law because it is powerless to do so.
That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.8Indeed, those who are under the control of human nature cannot please God.
But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)9You, however, are not under the control of the human nature but under the control of the Spirit, since God's Spirit lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of the Messiah, he does not belong to him.
And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.10But if the Messiah is in you, your bodies are dead due to sin, but the spirit is alive due to righteousness.
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.11And if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then the one who raised the Messiah from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive by his Spirit who lives in you.
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.12Consequently, brothers, we are not—with respect to human nature, that is—under an obligation to live according to human nature.
For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.13For if you live according to human nature, you are going to die, but if by the Spirit you continuously put to death the activities of the body, you will live.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.14For all who are led by God's Spirit are God's children.
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”15For you have not received a spirit of slavery that leads you into fear again. Instead, you have received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba! Father!"
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. The Future Glory17Now if we are children, we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with the Messiah —if, in fact, we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us.
For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.19For the creation is eagerly awaiting the revelation of God's children,
Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope,20because the creation has become subject to futility, though not by anything it did. The one who subjected it did so in the certainty
the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay.21that the creation itself would also be set free from corrupting bondage in order to share the glorious freedom of God's children.
For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.22For we know that all the rest of creation has been groaning with the pains of childbirth up to the present time.
And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.23However, not only the creation, but we who have the first fruits of the Spirit also groan inwardly as we eagerly await our adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it.24For we were saved with this hope in mind. Now a hope that can be observed is not really hope, for who hopes for what can be seen?
But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)25But if we hope for what we do not yet observe, we eagerly wait for it with patience.
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.26In the same way, the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, since we do not know how to pray as we should. But the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words,
And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.27and the one who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, for the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to God's will.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.28And we know that for those who love God, that is, for those who are called according to his purpose, all things are working together for good.
For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.29For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that the Son might be the firstborn among many brothers.
And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory. Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love30And those whom he predestined, he also called; and those whom he called, he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?31What, then, can we say about all of this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?32The one who did not spare his own Son, but offered him as a sacrifice for all of us, surely will give us all things, along with his Son, won't he?
Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.33Who will accuse God's elect? It is God who justifies!
Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.34Who is the one to condemn? It is the Messiah Jesus who is interceding on our behalf. He died, and more importantly, has been raised and is seated at the right hand of God.
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?35Who will separate us from the Messiah's love? Can trouble, distress, persecution, hunger, nakedness, danger, or a violent death do this?
(As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” )36As it is written, "For your sake we are being put to death all day long. We are thought of as sheep headed for slaughter."
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.37In all these things we are triumphantly victorious due to the one who loved us.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.39nor anything above, nor anything below, nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is ours in union with the Messiah Jesus, our Lord.
