The LORD said to Moses,1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
“Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually.2Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.
This is the lampstand that stands in the Tabernacle, in front of the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant. Aaron must keep the lamps burning in the LORD’s presence all night. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation.3Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations.
Aaron and the priests must tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand continually in the LORD’s presence.4He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually.
“You must bake twelve flat loaves of bread from choice flour, using four quarts of flour for each loaf.5And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake.
Place the bread before the LORD on the pure gold table, and arrange the loaves in two stacks, with six loaves in each stack.6And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.
Put some pure frankincense near each stack to serve as a representative offering, a special gift presented to the LORD.7And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Every Sabbath day this bread must be laid out before the LORD as a gift from the Israelites; it is an ongoing expression of the eternal covenant.8Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.
The loaves of bread will belong to Aaron and his descendants, who must eat them in a sacred place, for they are most holy. It is the permanent right of the priests to claim this portion of the special gifts presented to the LORD.” An Example of Just Punishment9And it shall be Aaron's and his sons'; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.
One day a man who had an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father came out of his tent and got into a fight with one of the Israelite men.10And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;
During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman blasphemed the Name of the LORD with a curse. So the man was brought to Moses for judgment. His mother was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.11And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:)
They kept the man in custody until the LORD’s will in the matter should become clear to them.12And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them.
Then the LORD said to Moses,13And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
“Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard the curse to lay their hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death.14Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
Say to the people of Israel: Those who curse their God will be punished for their sin.15And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.
Anyone who blasphemes the Name of the LORD must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel. Any native-born Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the Name of the LORD must be put to death.16And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.
“Anyone who takes another person’s life must be put to death.17And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.
“Anyone who kills another person’s animal must pay for it in full—a live animal for the animal that was killed.18And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.
“Anyone who injures another person must be dealt with according to the injury inflicted—19And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;
a fracture for a fracture, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Whatever anyone does to injure another person must be paid back in kind.20Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.
“Whoever kills an animal must pay for it in full, but whoever kills another person must be put to death.21And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.
“This same standard applies both to native-born Israelites and to the foreigners living among you. I am the LORD your God.”22Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
After Moses gave all these instructions to the Israelites, they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him to death. The Israelites did just as the LORD had commanded Moses.23And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.
