Job 23
NLT Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
Then Job spoke again:1Then Job replied,
“My complaint today is still a bitter one, and I try hard not to groan aloud.2"Even today my complaint is rebellion; His hand is heavy despite my groaning.
If only I knew where to find God, I would go to his court.3"Oh that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat!
I would lay out my case and present my arguments.4"I would present my case before Him And fill my mouth with arguments.
Then I would listen to his reply and understand what he says to me.5"I would learn the words which He would answer, And perceive what He would say to me.
Would he use his great power to argue with me? No, he would give me a fair hearing.6"Would He contend with me by the greatness of His power? No, surely He would pay attention to me.
Honest people can reason with him, so I would be forever acquitted by my judge.7"There the upright would reason with Him; And I would be delivered forever from my Judge.
I go east, but he is not there. I go west, but I cannot find him.8"Behold, I go forward but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him;
I do not see him in the north, for he is hidden. I look to the south, but he is concealed.9When He acts on the left, I cannot behold Him; He turns on the right, I cannot see Him.
“But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.10"But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside.11"My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside.
I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food.12"I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.
But once he has made his decision, who can change his mind? Whatever he wants to do, he does.13"But He is unique and who can turn Him? And what His soul desires, that He does.
So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny.14"For He performs what is appointed for me, And many such decrees are with Him.
No wonder I am so terrified in his presence. When I think of it, terror grips me.15"Therefore, I would be dismayed at His presence; When I consider, I am terrified of Him.
God has made me sick at heart; the Almighty has terrified me.16"It is God who has made my heart faint, And the Almighty who has dismayed me,
Darkness is all around me; thick, impenetrable darkness is everywhere.17But I am not silenced by the darkness, Nor deep gloom which covers me.
