| 2O Israel, rejoice in your Maker. O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King. | 2Let Israel rejoice in their Creator! Let the people of Zion delight in their king! |
| 3Praise his name with dancing, accompanied by tambourine and harp. | 3Let them praise his name with dancing! Let them sing praises to him to the accompaniment of the tambourine and harp! |
| 4For the LORD delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. | 4For the LORD takes delight in his people; he exalts the oppressed by delivering them. |
| 5Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them. Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds. | 5Let the godly rejoice because of their vindication! Let them shout for joy upon their beds! |
| 6Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands— | 6May they praise God while they hold a two-edged sword in their hand, |
| 7to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, | 7in order to take revenge on the nations, and punish foreigners. |
| 8to bind their kings with shackles and their leaders with iron chains, | 8They bind their kings in chains, and their nobles in iron shackles, |
| 9to execute the judgment written against them. This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones. Praise the LORD! | 9and execute the judgment to which their enemies have been sentenced. All his loyal followers will be vindicated. Praise the LORD! |
