Psalm 84
New Living TranslationNET Bible
How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies.1For the music director; according to the gittith style; written by the Korahites, a psalm. How lovely is the place where you live, O LORD who rules over all!
I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the LORD. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.2I desperately want to be in the courts of the LORD's temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!3Even the birds find a home there, and the swallow builds a nest, where she can protect her young near your altars, O LORD who rules over all, my king and my God.
What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. Interlude4How blessed are those who live in your temple and praise you continually! (Selah)
What joy for those whose strength comes from the LORD, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.5How blessed are those who find their strength in you, and long to travel the roads that lead to your temple!
When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.6As they pass through the Baca Valley, he provides a spring for them. The rain even covers it with pools of water.
They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.7They are sustained as they travel along; each one appears before God in Zion.
O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, hear my prayer. Listen, O God of Jacob. Interlude8O LORD, sovereign God, hear my prayer! Listen, O God of Jacob! (Selah)
O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield! Show favor to the one you have anointed.9O God, take notice of our shield! Show concern for your chosen king!
A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.10Certainly spending just one day in your temple courts is better than spending a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the entrance to the temple of my God than live in the tents of the wicked.
For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.11For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor; he withholds no good thing from those who have integrity.
O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.12O LORD who rules over all, how blessed are those who trust in you!
