Saul's Overthrow and Death

(2 Samuel 1:1-16; 1 Chronicles 10:1-6)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell dead on Mount Gilboa.1Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.1Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.1The Philistines fought against Israel, and Israel's men fled from them. Many were killed on Mount Gilboa.
2The Philistines were in hot pursuit of Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua.2And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.2The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua the sons of Saul.2And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.2The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons and killed his sons, Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
3The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him critically.3The battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by the archers.3The battle went heavily against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was badly wounded by the archers.3And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.3When the battle intensified against Saul, the archers caught up with him and severely wounded him.
4Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me." But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.4Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.” But his armor-bearer would not, for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword and fell upon it.4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, otherwise these uncircumcised will come and pierce me through and make sport of me." But his armor bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.4Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.4Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and run me through with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and run me through and torture me." But his armor-bearer would not do it because he was terrified. Then Saul took his sword and fell on it.

5When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him.5And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him.5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him.5And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.5When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his own sword and died with him.
6So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.6Thus Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor-bearer, and all his men, on the same day together.6Thus Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men on that day together.6So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.6So on that day, Saul died together with his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men.

The Philistines Possess the Towns

(1 Chronicles 10:7-10)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
7When the Israelites along the valley and those across the Jordan saw that the Israelite army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.7And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley and those beyond the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. And the Philistines came and lived in them.7When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, with those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; then the Philistines came and lived in them.7And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.7When the men of Israel on the other side of the valley and on the other side of the Jordan saw that Israel's men had run away and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled. So the Philistines came and settled in them.
8The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.8The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.8It came about on the next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.8And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.8The next day when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons dead on Mount Gilboa.
9They cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and they sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people.9So they cut off his head and stripped off his armor and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry the good news to the house of their idols and to the people.9They cut off his head and stripped off his weapons, and sent them throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry the good news to the house of their idols and to the people.9And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.9They cut off Saul's head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to spread the good news in the temples of their idols and among the people.
10They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.10They put his armor in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.10They put his weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.10And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.10Then they put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and hung his body on the wall of Beth-shan.
