1 Meanwhile, Joseph had been taken down to Egypt, where an Egyptian named Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. 2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, serving in the household of his Egyptian master. 4 Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household and entrusted him with everything he owned. So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all <i>that</i> he had he put into his hand. So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and put him in charge of all that he owned. And it came to pass from the time <i>that</i> he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field. It came about that from the time he made him overseer in his house and over all that he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house on account of Joseph; so the LORD’S blessing was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field.
6 So Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s care; he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, So he left all that he had in Joseph’s charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was <i>a</i> goodly <i>person</i>, and well favoured. So he left Joseph in charge of everything that he owned; and with him <i>there</i> he did not concern himself with anything except the food which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,
7 and after some time his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph and said, “Sleep with me.” And after a time his master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.” And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. And it came about after these events that his master’s wife had her eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Sleep with me.” and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”
8 But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has entrusted everything he owns to my care. But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what <i>is</i> with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, with me <i>here,</i> my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put me in charge of all that he owns. But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care.
9 No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do such a great evil and sin against God?” He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” <i>There is</i> none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou <i>art</i> his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and sin against God?” No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”
10 Although Potiphar’s wife spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be near her. And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her. And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, <i>or</i> to be with her. Though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie beside her <i>or</i> be with her. And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.
11 One day, however, Joseph went into the house to attend to his work, and not a single household servant was inside. But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, And it came to pass about this time, that <i>Joseph</i> went into the house to do his business; and <i>there was</i> none of the men of the house there within. Now it happened one day that he went into the house to do his work, and none of the people of the household was there inside. One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside.
12 She grabbed Joseph by his cloak and said, “Sleep with me!” But leaving his cloak in her hand, he escaped and ran outside. she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. So she grabbed him by his garment, saying, “Sleep with me!” But he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside. She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.
13 When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house, And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth, When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled outside, When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house,
14 she called her household servants. “Look,” she said, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us. He came to me so he could sleep with me, but I screamed as loud as I could. she called to the men of her household and said to them, “See, he has brought among us a Hebrew to laugh at us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice: she called to the men of her household and said to them, “See, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to make fun of us; he came in to me to sleep with me, and I screamed. she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us! He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed.
15 When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.” And as soon as he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and fled and got out of the house.” And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out. When he heard that I raised my voice and screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled and went outside.” When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
16 So Potiphar’s wife kept Joseph’s cloak beside her until his master came home. Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home, And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home. So she left his garment beside her until his master came home. She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home.
17 Then she told him the same story: “The Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me, and she told him the same story, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought among us, came in to me to laugh at me. And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: Then she spoke to him with these words: “The Hebrew slave, whom you brought to us, came in to me to make fun of me; Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me.
18 but when I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.” But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment beside me and fled out of the house.” And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out. but when I raised my voice and screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled outside.” But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is what your slave did to me,” he burned with anger. As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, “This is the way your servant treated me,” his anger was kindled. And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled. Now when his master heard the words of his wife which she spoke to him, saying, “This is what your slave did to me,” his anger burned. When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger.
20 So Joseph’s master took him and had him thrown into the prison where the king’s prisoners were confined. While Joseph was there in the prison, And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison. And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners <i>were</i> bound: and he was there in the prison. 21 the LORD was with him and extended kindness to him, granting him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 And the warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care, so that he was responsible for all that was done in the prison. And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that <i>were</i> in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer <i>of it</i>. And the warden of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison; so that whatever was done there, he was responsible <i>for it.</i> So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.
23 The warden did not concern himself with anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph’s charge, because the LORD was with him. And whatever he did, the LORD made it succeed. The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing <i>that was</i> under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and <i>that</i> which he did, the LORD made <i>it</i> to prosper. The warden of the prison did not supervise anything under Joseph’s authority, because the LORD was with him; and, the LORD made whatever he did prosper. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
