This is the word of the LORD that came to Joel son of Pethuel: The word of the LORD that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel: The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. The word of the LORD that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel: The word of the LORD that came to Joel son of Pethuel.
Hear this, O elders; and give ear, all who dwell in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your fathers? Hear this, you elders; give ear, all inhabitants of the land! Has such a thing happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers? Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? Hear this, you elders, And listen, all inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this happened in your days, Or in your fathers’ days? Hear this, you elders; listen, all who live in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your ancestors?
Tell it to your children; let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation. Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation. Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. Tell your sons about it, And have your sons tell their sons, And their sons the next generation. Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.
What the devouring locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; what the swarming locust has left, the young locust has eaten; and what the young locust has left, the destroying locust has eaten. What the cutting locust left, the swarming locust has eaten. What the swarming locust left, the hopping locust has eaten, and what the hopping locust left, the destroying locust has eaten. That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten. What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; And what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten; And what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten. What the locust swarm has left the great locusts have eaten; what the great locusts have left the young locusts have eaten; what the young locusts have left other locusts have eaten.
Wake up, you drunkards, and weep; wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it has been cut off from your mouth. Awake, you drunkards, and weep, and wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth. Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. Awake, you heavy drinkers, and weep; And wail, all you wine drinkers, Because of the sweet wine, For it has been eliminated from your mouth. Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine; wail because of the new wine, for it has been snatched from your lips.
For a nation has invaded My land, powerful and without number; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and its fangs are the fangs of a lioness. For a nation has come up against my land, powerful and beyond number; its teeth are lions’ teeth, and it has the fangs of a lioness. For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion. For a nation has invaded my land, Mighty and without number; Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, And it has the jaws of a lioness. A nation has invaded my land, a mighty army without number; it has the teeth of a lion, the fangs of a lioness.
It has laid waste My grapevine and splintered My fig tree. It has stripped off the bark and thrown it away; the branches have turned white. It has laid waste my vine and splintered my fig tree; it has stripped off their bark and thrown it down; their branches are made white. He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. It has made my vine a waste And my fig tree a stump. It has stripped them bare and hurled them away; Their branches have become white. It has laid waste my vines and ruined my fig trees. It has stripped off their bark and thrown it away, leaving their branches white.
Wail like a virgin dressed in sackcloth, grieving for the husband of her youth. Lament like a virgin wearing sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth. Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. Wail like a virgin clothed with sackcloth For the groom of her youth. Mourn like a virgin in sackcloth grieving for the betrothed of her youth.
Grain and drink offerings have been cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests are in mourning, those who minister before the LORD. The grain offering and the drink offering are cut off from the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, the ministers of the LORD. The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn. The grain offering and the drink offering have been cut off From the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, The ministers of the LORD. 10 The field is ruined; the land mourns. For the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, and the oil fails. The fields are destroyed, the ground mourns, because the grain is destroyed, the wine dries up, the oil languishes. The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. The field is ruined, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine has dried up, Fresh oil has failed. The fields are ruined, the ground is dried up; the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the olive oil fails.

The grapevine is dried up, and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, palm, and apple— all the trees of the orchard— are withered. Surely the joy of mankind has dried up. The vine dries up; the fig tree languishes. Pomegranate, palm, and apple, all the trees of the field are dried up, and gladness dries up from the children of man. The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men. The vine has dried up And the fig tree has withered; The pomegranate, the palm also, and the apple tree, All the trees of the field have dried up. Indeed, joy has dried up From the sons of mankind. The vine is dried up and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree— all the trees of the field—are dried up. Surely the people’s joy is withered away.
Put on sackcloth and lament, O priests; wail, O ministers of the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because the grain and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God. 15 Alas for the day! For the Day of the LORD is near, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty. Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes. Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. Woe for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty. Alas for that day! For the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.
Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes— joy and gladness from the house of our God? Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? Has food not been cut off before our eyes, and Joy and rejoicing from the house of our God? Has not the food been cut off before our very eyes— joy and gladness from the house of our God?
The seeds lie shriveled beneath the clods; the storehouses are in ruins; the granaries are broken down, for the grain has withered away. The seed shrivels under the clods; the storehouses are desolate; the granaries are torn down because the grain has dried up. The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered. The seeds have dried up under their shovels; The storehouses have become desolate, The grain silos are ruined, Because the grain has dried up. The seeds are shriveled beneath the clods. The storehouses are in ruins, the granaries have been broken down, for the grain has dried up.
How the cattle groan! The herds wander in confusion because they have no pasture. Even the flocks of sheep are suffering. How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep suffer. How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. How the animals have groaned! The herds of cattle have wandered aimlessly Because there is no pasture for them; Even the flocks of sheep have suffered. How the cattle moan! The herds mill about because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering.
To You, O LORD, I call, for fire has consumed the open pastures and flames have scorched all the trees of the field. To you, O LORD, I call. For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and flame has burned all the trees of the field. O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. To You, LORD, I cry out; For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, And the flame has burned up all the trees of the field. To you, LORD, I call, for fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.
Even the beasts of the field pant for You, for the streams of water have dried up, and fire has consumed the open pastures. Even the beasts of the field pant for you because the water brooks are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness. The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness. Even the animals of the field pant for You; For the stream beds of water are dried up, And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness. Even the wild animals pant for you; the streams of water have dried up and fire has devoured the pastures in the wilderness.
