1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved my distress; show me grace and hear my prayer. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer! To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me <i>when I was</i> in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. For the music director; on stringed instruments. 2 How long, O men, will my honor be maligned? How long will you love vanity and seek after lies Selah O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah O ye sons of men, how long <i>will ye turn</i> my glory into shame? <i>how long</i> will ye love vanity, <i>and</i> seek after leasing? Selah. You sons of man, how long will my honor be <i>treated as</i> an insult? <i>How long</i> will you love what is worthless and strive for a lie? Selah How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods
3 Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him. But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him. But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. But know that the LORD has set apart the godly person for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him. 4 Be angry, yet do not sin; on your bed, search your heart and be still. Selah Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD. Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. 6 Many ask, “Who can show us the good?” Shine the light of Your face upon us, O LORD. There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!” <i>There be</i> many that say, Who will shew us <i>any</i> good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Many are saying, “Who will show us <i>anything</i> good?” Lift up the light of Your face upon us, LORD! Many, LORD, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 You have filled my heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound. You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time <i>that</i> their corn and their wine increased. You have put joy in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine are abundant. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.
8 I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
