1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, [and] thanksgiving be offered on behalf of all men 1Παρακαλῶ οὖν πρῶτον πάντων ποιεῖσθαι δεήσεις προσευχάς ἐντεύξεις εὐχαριστίας ὑπὲρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων
2for kings and all those in authority, so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. 2ὑπὲρ βασιλέων καὶ πάντων τῶν ἐν ὑπεροχῇ ὄντων ἵνα ἤρεμον καὶ ἡσύχιον βίον διάγωμεν ἐν πάσῃ εὐσεβείᾳ καὶ σεμνότητι
3This [is] good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 3τοῦτο καλὸν καὶ ἀπόδεκτον ἐνώπιον τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν Θεοῦ
4who desires all men to be saved and to come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth. 4ὃς πάντας ἀνθρώπους θέλει σωθῆναι καὶ εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας ἐλθεῖν
5For [there is] one God and one mediator between God and men, [the] man Christ Jesus, 5Εἷς γὰρ Θεός εἷς καὶ μεσίτης Θεοῦ καὶ ἀνθρώπων ἄνθρωπος Χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς
6who gave Himself [as] a ransom for all— the testimony that was given at just the right time. 6ὁ δοὺς ἑαυτὸν ἀντίλυτρον ὑπὲρ πάντων τὸ μαρτύριον καιροῖς ἰδίοις
7For [this reason] I was appointed as a herald, an apostle, [and] a faithful and TRUE teacher of [the] Gentiles. I am telling [the] truth; [I am] not lying [ about anything ]. 7εἰς ὃ ἐτέθην ἐγὼ κῆρυξ καὶ ἀπόστολος ἀλήθειαν λέγω οὐ ψεύδομαι διδάσκαλος ἐθνῶν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀληθείᾳ
8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger [or] dissension. 8Βούλομαι οὖν προσεύχεσθαι τοὺς ἄνδρας ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ἐπαίροντας ὁσίους χεῖρας χωρὶς ὀργῆς καὶ διαλογισμοῦ
9Likewise, [I want] [the] women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and [with] self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 9Ὡσαύτως ‹καὶ› γυναῖκας ἐν καταστολῇ κοσμίῳ μετὰ αἰδοῦς καὶ σωφροσύνης κοσμεῖν ἑαυτάς μὴ ἐν πλέγμασιν καὶ χρυσίῳ ἢ μαργαρίταις ἢ ἱματισμῷ πολυτελεῖ
10but with good deeds, [as] is proper for women [who] profess to worship God. 10ἀλλ’ ὃ πρέπει γυναιξὶν ἐπαγγελλομέναις θεοσέβειαν δι’ ἔργων ἀγαθῶν
11A woman must learn in quietness [and] full submissiveness. 11Γυνὴ ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ μανθανέτω ἐν πάσῃ ὑποταγῇ
12I do not permit a woman to teach [or] exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet. 12διδάσκειν δὲ γυναικὶ οὐκ ἐπιτρέπω οὐδὲ αὐθεντεῖν ἀνδρός ἀλλ’ εἶναι ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ
13For Adam was formed first, and then Eve. 13Ἀδὰμ γὰρ πρῶτος ἐπλάσθη εἶτα Εὕα
14And [it was] not Adam [who] was deceived, but the woman [who] was deceived [and] fell into transgression. 14καὶ Ἀδὰμ οὐκ ἠπατήθη ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἐξαπατηθεῖσα ἐν παραβάσει γέγονεν
15Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control. 15σωθήσεται δὲ διὰ τῆς τεκνογονίας ἐὰν μείνωσιν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ καὶ ἁγιασμῷ μετὰ σωφροσύνης
