Sacrifices Restored

1  וַיִּגַּע֙ (And had come) הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ (the month) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י (seventh), וּבְנֵ֥י (and the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel were) בֶּעָרִ֑יםס (in the cities), וַיֵּאָסְפ֥וּ (and gathered together) הָעָ֛ם (the people) כְּאִ֥ישׁ (as man) אֶחָ֖ד (one) אֶל־ (to) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ס (Jerusalem).

2  וַיָּקָם֩ (And arose) יֵשׁ֨וּעַ (Jeshua) בֶּן־ (son) יֽוֹצָדָ֜ק (of Jozadak), וְאֶחָ֣יו (and his brothers) הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים (the priests), וּזְרֻבָּבֶ֤ל (and Zerubbabel) בֶּן־ (son) שְׁאַלְתִּיאֵל֙ (of Shealtiel), וְאֶחָ֔יו (and his brothers), וַיִּבְנ֕וּ (and they built) אֶת־ (-) מִזְבַּ֖ח (the altar) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (of the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), לְהַעֲל֤וֹת (to offer) עָלָיו֙ (on it) עֹל֔וֹת (burnt offerings), כַּכָּת֕וּב (as it is written) בְּתוֹרַ֖ת (in the Law) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (of Moses) אִישׁ־ (the man) הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ (of the God). 3  וַיָּכִ֤ינוּ (And they set) הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (the altar) עַל־ (on) מְכ֣וֹנֹתָ֔יו (its bases) כִּ֚י (despite) בְּאֵימָ֣ה (the dread) עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (upon them) מֵעַמֵּ֖י (of the people) הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת (of the lands), וַיַּעַל (and they offered) עָלָ֤יו (on it) עֹלוֹת֙ (burnt offerings) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (to YHWH), עֹל֖וֹת (burnt offerings) לַבֹּ֥קֶר (at the morning) וְלָעָֽרֶב׃ (and at the evening).

4  וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֛וּ (And they kept) אֶת־ (-) חַ֥ג (the Feast) הַסֻּכּ֖וֹת (of Booths), כַּכָּת֑וּב (as it is written), וְעֹלַ֨ת (and the burnt offering) י֤וֹם (day) בְּיוֹם֙ (by day) בְּמִסְפָּ֔ר (by number), כְּמִשְׁפַּ֖ט (according to the ordinance), דְּבַר־ (the matter) י֥וֹם (of a day) בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃ (in its day).

5  וְאַחֲרֵיכֵ֞ן (And afterward) עֹלַ֤ת (the burnt offering) תָּמִיד֙ (continual), וְלֶ֣חֳדָשִׁ֔ים (and for New Moons), וּלְכָל־ (and for all) מוֹעֲדֵ֥י (the appointed times) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) הַמְקֻדָּשִׁ֑ים (that were consecrated), וּלְכֹ֛ל (and for everyone) מִתְנַדֵּ֥ב (who freely offered) נְדָבָ֖ה (a freewill offering) לַיהוָֽה׃ (to YHWH).

6  מִיּ֤וֹם (From the day) אֶחָד֙ (first) לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ (of the month) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י (seventh) הֵחֵ֕לּוּ (they began) לְהַעֲל֥וֹת (to offer) עֹל֖וֹת (burnt offerings) לַיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH), וְהֵיכַ֥ל (and the temple) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) לֹ֥א (not) יֻסָּֽד׃ (had been founded). 7  וַיִּ֨תְּנוּ־ (And they gave) כֶ֔סֶף (silver) לַחֹצְבִ֖ים (to the masons) וְלֶחָרָשִׁ֑ים (and to the carpenters), וּמַאֲכָ֨ל (and food) וּמִשְׁתֶּ֜ה (and drink) וָשֶׁ֗מֶן (and oil) לַצִּֽדֹנִים֙ (to the Sidonians) וְלַצֹּרִ֔ים (and to the Tyrians), לְהָבִיא֩ (to bring) עֲצֵ֨י (logs) אֲרָזִ֤ים (cedar) מִן־ (from) הַלְּבָנוֹן֙ (Lebanon) אֶל־ (to) יָ֣ם (the sea) יָפ֔וֹא (of Joppa), כְּרִשְׁי֛וֹן (by permission) כּ֥וֹרֶשׁ (of Cyrus) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) פָּרַ֖ס (of Persia) עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃פ (concerning them).

8  וּבַשָּׁנָ֣ה (And in the year) הַשֵּׁנִ֗ית (second) לְבוֹאָ֞ם (of their coming) אֶל־ (to) בֵּ֤ית (the house) הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ (of God) לִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (at Jerusalem), בַּחֹ֖דֶשׁ (in the month) הַשֵּׁנִ֑י (second), הֵחֵ֡לּוּ (began) זְרֻבָּבֶ֣ל (Zerubbabel) בֶּן־ (son) שְׁ֠אַלְתִּיאֵל (of Shealtiel), וְיֵשׁ֨וּעַ (and Jeshua) בֶּן־ (son) יֽוֹצָדָ֜ק (of Jozadak), וּשְׁאָ֥ר (and the rest) אֲחֵיהֶ֣ם׀ (of their brothers) הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים (the priests) וְהַלְוִיִּ֗ם (and the Levites), וְכָל־ (and all) הַבָּאִים֙ (those coming) מֵהַשְּׁבִ֣י (out of the captivity) יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֔ם (to Jerusalem). וַיַּעֲמִ֣ידוּ (And they appointed) אֶת־ (-) הַלְוִיִּ֗ם (the Levites), מִבֶּ֨ן (from a son) עֶשְׂרִ֤ים (of twenty) שָׁנָה֙ (years) וָמַ֔עְלָה (and above), לְנַצֵּ֖חַ (to oversee) עַל־ (upon) מְלֶ֥אכֶת (the work) בֵּית־ (of the house) יְהוָֽה׃פ (of YHWH). 9  וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד (And arose) יֵשׁ֡וּעַ (Jeshua) בָּנָ֣יו (and his sons) וְ֠אֶחָיו (and brothers), קַדְמִיאֵ֨ל (Kadmiel) וּבָנָ֤יו (and his sons) בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יְהוּדָה֙ (of Judah)), כְּאֶחָ֔ד (as one), לְנַצֵּ֛חַ (to oversee) עַל־ (upon) עֹשֵׂ֥ה (those doing) הַמְּלָאכָ֖ה (the work) בְּבֵ֣ית (in the house) הָאֱלֹהִ֑יםס (of God)— בְּנֵי֙ (the sons) חֵֽנָדָ֔ד (of Henadad) בְּנֵיהֶ֥ם (and their sons) וַאֲחֵיהֶ֖ם (and their brothers), הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ (the Levites).

10  וְיִסְּד֥וּ (And laid the foundation) הַבֹּנִ֖ים (the builders) אֶת־ (of) הֵיכַ֣ל (the temple) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), וַיַּעֲמִידוּ֩ (and they stood) הַכֹּהֲנִ֨ים (the priests) מְלֻבָּשִׁ֜ים (in their apparel) בַּחֲצֹֽצְר֗וֹת (with trumpets), וְהַלְוִיִּ֤ם (and the Levites) בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) אָסָף֙ (of Asaph) בַּֽמְצִלְתַּ֔יִם (with cymbals), לְהַלֵּל֙ (to praise) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) עַל־ (according to) יְדֵ֖י (the ordinance) דָּוִ֥יד (of David) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 11  וַֽ֠יַּעֲנוּ (And they sang responsively), בְּהַלֵּ֨ל (praising) וּבְהוֹדֹ֤ת (and giving thanks) לַֽיהוָה֙ (to YHWH):

כִּ֣י (For) ט֔וֹב (He is good),

כִּֽי־ (even to) לְעוֹלָ֥ם (forever) חַסְדּ֖וֹ (His loving devotion) עַל־ (is over) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel).

וְכָל־ (And all) הָעָ֡ם (the people) הֵרִיעוּ֩ (shouted) תְרוּעָ֙ה (with a shout) גְדוֹלָ֤ה (great) בְהַלֵּל֙ (when they praised) לַֽיהוָ֔ה (YHWH), עַ֖ל (because) הוּסַ֥ד (had been founded) בֵּית־ (the house) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).

12  וְרַבִּ֡ים (And many) מֵהַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים (of the priests) וְהַלְוִיִּם֩ (and the Levites) וְרָאשֵׁ֨י (and the heads) הָאָב֜וֹת (of the fathers), הַזְּקֵנִ֗ים (the aged) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) רָא֜וּ (had seen) אֶת־ (-) הַבַּ֤יִת (the temple) הָֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ (first), בְּיָסְד֔וֹ (when had been founded) זֶ֤ה (this) הַבַּ֙יִת֙ (temple) בְּעֵ֣ינֵיהֶ֔ם (before their eyes), בֹּכִ֖ים (wept) בְּק֣וֹל (with a voice) גָּד֑וֹל (loud). וְרַבִּ֛ים (And many) בִּתְרוּעָ֥ה (shouted) בְשִׂמְחָ֖ה (for joy), לְהָרִ֥ים (lifting up) קֽוֹל׃ (the voice). 13  וְאֵ֣ין (And not) הָעָ֗ם (the people) מַכִּירִים֙ (could discern) ק֚וֹל (the noise) תְּרוּעַ֣ת (of the shout) הַשִּׂמְחָ֔ה (of joy) לְק֖וֹל (from the noise) בְּכִ֣י (of the weeping) הָעָ֑ם (of the people), כִּ֣י (for) הָעָ֗ם (the people) מְרִיעִים֙ (shouted) תְּרוּעָ֣ה (with a shout) גְדוֹלָ֔ה (loud), וְהַקּ֥וֹל (and the sound) נִשְׁמַ֖ע (was heard) עַד־ (even to) לְמֵרָחֽוֹק׃פ (afar off).
