More Proverbs of Solomon
1 גַּם־ (Also) אֵ֭לֶּה (these are) מִשְׁלֵ֣י (proverbs) שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה (of Solomon), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) הֶ֝עְתִּ֗יקוּ (copied down) אַנְשֵׁ֤י׀ (the men) חִזְקִיָּ֬ה (of Hezekiah) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) יְהוּדָֽה׃ (of Judah).
2 כְּבֹ֣ד (The glory) אֱ֭לֹהִים (of God) הַסְתֵּ֣ר (is to conceal) דָּבָ֑ר (a matter),
וּכְבֹ֥ד (and the glory) מְ֝לָכִ֗ים (of kings) חֲקֹ֣ר (is to search out) דָּבָֽר׃ (a matter).
3 שָׁמַ֣יִם (The heavens) לָ֭רוּם (for height), וָאָ֣רֶץ (and the earth) לָעֹ֑מֶק (for depth),
וְלֵ֥ב (and the heart) מְ֝לָכִ֗ים (of kings) אֵ֣ין (cannot) חֵֽקֶר׃ (be searched).
4 הָג֣וֹ (Remove) סִיגִ֣ים (the dross) מִכָּ֑סֶף (from the silver),
וַיֵּצֵ֖א (and will come forth) לַצֹּרֵ֣ף (for the refiner) כֶּֽלִי׃ (a vessel).
5 הָג֣וֹ (Remove) רָ֭שָׁע (the wicked) לִפְנֵי־ (before the face) מֶ֑לֶךְ (of the king),
וְיִכּ֖וֹן (and will be established) בַּצֶּ֣דֶק (in righteousness) כִּסְאֽוֹ׃ (his throne).
6 אַל־ (Not) תִּתְהַדַּ֥ר (should you exalt yourself) לִפְנֵי־ (before the face) מֶ֑לֶךְ (of the king),
וּבִמְק֥וֹם (and in the place) גְּ֝דֹלִ֗ים (of the great ones) אַֽל־ (not) תַּעֲמֹֽד׃ (should you stand).
7 כִּ֤י (For) ט֥וֹב (it is good) אֲמָר־ (someone saying) לְךָ֗ (to you) עֲֽלֵ֫ה (Come up) הֵ֥נָּה (here)!
מֵֽ֭הַשְׁפִּ֣ילְךָ (Than to set you low) לִפְנֵ֣י (before) נָדִ֑יב (a noble).
אֲשֶׁ֖ר (That which) רָא֣וּ (have seen) עֵינֶֽיךָ׃ (your eyes),
8 אַל־ (not) תֵּצֵ֥א (should you go out) לָרִ֗ב (to dispute) מַ֫הֵ֥ר (hastily).
פֶּ֣ן (For) מַה־ (what) תַּ֭עֲשֶׂה (will you do) בְּאַחֲרִיתָ֑הּ (in the end)
בְּהַכְלִ֖ים (when has put to shame) אֹתְךָ֣ (you) רֵעֶֽךָ׃ (your neighbor)?
9 רִֽ֭יבְךָ (Dispute) רִ֣יב (your cause) אֶת־ (with) רֵעֶ֑ךָ (your neighbor),
וְס֖וֹד (and the secret) אַחֵ֣ר (to another) אַל־ (do not) תְּגָֽל׃ (uncover).
10 פֶּֽן־ (Lest) יְחַסֶּדְךָ֥ (should bring shame to you) שֹׁמֵ֑עַ (the one hearing it),
וְ֝דִבָּתְךָ֗ (and your defamation) לֹ֣א (not) תָשֽׁוּב׃ (shall turn back).
11 תַּפּוּחֵ֣י (Apples) זָ֭הָב (of gold) בְּמַשְׂכִּיּ֥וֹת (in figures) כָּ֑סֶף (of silver)
דָּ֝בָ֗ר (is a word) דָּבֻ֥ר (spoken) עַל־ (at) אָפְנָֽיו׃ (its right time).
12 נֶ֣זֶם (A ring) זָ֭הָב (of gold) וַחֲלִי־ (and an ornament) כָ֑תֶם (of fine gold)
מוֹכִ֥יחַ (giving rebuke) חָ֝כָ֗ם (is a wise one) עַל־ (to) אֹ֥זֶן (an ear) שֹׁמָֽעַת׃ (listening).
13 כְּצִנַּת־ (Like the cold) שֶׁ֨לֶג׀ (of snow) בְּי֬וֹם (in time) קָצִ֗יר (of harvest)
צִ֣יר (is a messenger) נֶ֭אֱמָן (faithful) לְשֹׁלְחָ֑יו (to those sending him),
וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ (and the soul) אֲדֹנָ֣יו (of his lords) יָשִֽׁיב׃פ (he restores).
14 נְשִׂיאִ֣ים (Clouds) וְ֭רוּחַ (and wind) וְגֶ֣שֶׁם (and rain) אָ֑יִן (none)
אִ֥ישׁ (is a man) מִ֝תְהַלֵּ֗ל (boasting) בְּמַתַּת־ (in gifts) שָֽׁקֶר׃ (of deception).
15 בְּאֹ֣רֶךְ (With slowness) אַ֭פַּיִם (of anger) יְפֻתֶּ֣ה (may be persuaded) קָצִ֑ין (a ruler),
וְלָשׁ֥וֹן (and a tongue) רַ֝כָּ֗ה (gentle) תִּשְׁבָּר־ (can break) גָּֽרֶם׃ (a bone).
16 דְּבַ֣שׁ (Honey) מָ֭צָאתָ (you have found)? אֱכֹ֣ל (Eat only) דַּיֶּ֑ךָּ (what is enough for you),
פֶּן־ (lest) תִּ֝שְׂבָּעֶ֗נּוּ (you be filled up with it) וַהֲקֵֽאתֽוֹ׃ (and vomit it out).
17 הֹקַ֣ר (Make rare) רַ֭גְלְךָ (your foot) מִבֵּ֣ית (from the house) רֵעֶ֑ךָ (of your neighbor),
פֶּן־ (lest) יִ֝שְׂבָּעֲךָ֗ (he have his fill of you) וּשְׂנֵאֶֽךָ׃ (and hate you).
18 מֵפִ֣יץ (A club), וְ֭חֶרֶב (or a sword), וְחֵ֣ץ (or an arrow) שָׁנ֑וּן (sharpened)
אִ֥ישׁ (is a man) עֹנֶ֥ה (answering) בְ֝רֵעֵ֗הוּ (against his neighbor) עֵ֣ד (a testimony) שָֽׁקֶר׃ (of falsehood).
19 שֵׁ֣ן (A tooth) רֹ֭עָה (broken) וְרֶ֣גֶל (or a foot) מוּעָ֑דֶת (tottering)
מִבְטָ֥ח (is the trust in) בּ֝וֹגֵ֗ד (one acting treacherously) בְּי֣וֹם (in a day) צָרָֽה׃ (of distress).
20 מַ֥עֲדֶה (One taking away) בֶּ֨גֶד׀ (a garment) בְּי֣וֹם (in a day) קָ֭רָה (of cold)
חֹ֣מֶץ (or like vinegar) עַל־ (on) נָ֑תֶר (soda),
וְשָׁ֥ר (so is one singing) בַּ֝שִּׁרִ֗ים (with songs) עַ֣ל (to) לֶב־ (a heart) רָֽע׃פ (of misery).
21 אִם־ (If) רָעֵ֣ב (is hungry) שֹׂ֭נַאֲךָ (your enemy), הַאֲכִלֵ֣הוּ (give him to eat) לָ֑חֶם (bread),
וְאִם־ (and if) צָ֝מֵ֗א (he is thirsty), הַשְׁקֵ֥הוּ (give him to drink) מָֽיִם׃ (water).
22 כִּ֤י (For) גֶֽחָלִ֗ים (burning coals) אַ֭תָּה (you) חֹתֶ֣ה (will be heaping) עַל־ (upon) רֹאשׁ֑וֹ (his head),
וַֽ֝יהוָ֗ה (and YHWH) יְשַׁלֶּם־ (will give recompense) לָֽךְ׃ (to you).
23 ר֣וּחַ (A wind) צָ֭פוֹן (north) תְּח֣וֹלֵֽל (twists out) גָּ֑שֶׁם (rain),
וּפָנִ֥ים (and brings faces) נִ֝זְעָמִ֗ים (of indignanation) לְשׁ֣וֹן (tongue) סָֽתֶר׃ (and a secret).
24 ט֗וֹב (Better) שֶׁ֥בֶת (to sit) עַל־ (on) פִּנַּת־ (the corner) גָּ֑ג (of roof)
מֵאֵ֥שֶׁת (than with a wife) מְדוֹנִים (of quarrels) וּבֵ֥ית (and a house) חָֽבֶר׃ (of company).
25 מַ֣יִם (Water) קָ֭רִים (cold) עַל־ (over) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (soul) עֲיֵפָ֑ה (a weary)
וּשְׁמוּעָ֥ה (is news) ט֝וֹבָ֗ה (good) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (from a land) מֶרְחָֽק׃ (far away).
26 מַעְיָ֣ן (A spring) נִ֭רְפָּשׂ (made foul) וּמָק֣וֹר (or a well) מָשְׁחָ֑ת (spoiled)
צַ֝דִּ֗יק (is a righteous one) מָ֣ט (swaying) לִפְנֵֽי־ (before the face) רָשָֽׁע׃ (of a wicked one).
27 אָ֘כֹ֤ל (To eat) דְּבַ֣שׁ (honey) הַרְבּ֣וֹת (much) לֹא־ (not) ט֑וֹב (is good),
וְחֵ֖קֶר (and the searching for) כְּבֹדָ֣ם (his honor)— כָּבֽוֹד׃ (of honor).
28 עִ֣יר (A city) פְּ֭רוּצָה (breached) אֵ֣ין (without) חוֹמָ֑ה (a wall)
אִ֝֗ישׁ (is a man) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (who) אֵ֖ין (is without) מַעְצָ֣ר (restraint) לְרוּחֽוֹ׃ (to his spirit).
