The Triumphant Messiah
(Acts 4:23–31)

לָ֭מָּה (Why) רָגְשׁ֣וּ (do rage) גוֹיִ֑ם (the nations),

וּ֝לְאֻמִּ֗ים (and the peoples) יֶהְגּוּ־ (plot) רִֽיק׃ (in vain)?

2  יִ֥תְיַצְּב֨וּ׀ (Take their stand) מַלְכֵי־ (the kings) אֶ֗רֶץ (of the earth)

וְרוֹזְנִ֥ים (and the rulers) נֽוֹסְדוּ־ (establish themselves) יָ֑חַד (together)

עַל־ (against) יְ֝הוָה (YHWH)

וְעַל־ (and against) מְשִׁיחֽוֹ׃ (His Anointed):

3  נְֽ֭נַתְּקָה (Let us tear off) אֶת־ (-) מֽוֹסְרוֹתֵ֑ימוֹ (their bonds)

וְנַשְׁלִ֖יכָה (and cast away) מִמֶּ֣נּוּ (from us) עֲבֹתֵֽימוֹ׃ (their cords).

4  יוֹשֵׁ֣ב (The One sitting) בַּשָּׁמַ֣יִם (in the heavens) יִשְׂחָ֑ק (laughs);

אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י (the Lord) יִלְעַג־ (scoffs) לָֽמוֹ׃ (at them).

5  אָ֤ז (Then) יְדַבֵּ֣ר (He speaks) אֵלֵ֣ימוֹ (to them) בְאַפּ֑וֹ (in His anger),

וּֽבַחֲרוֹנ֥וֹ (and in his fury) יְבַהֲלֵֽמוֹ׃ (He terrifies them):

6  וַ֭אֲנִי (And I) נָסַ֣כְתִּי (have installed) מַלְכִּ֑י (My King) עַל־ (on) צִ֝יּ֗וֹן (Zion),

הַר־ (the mountain) קָדְשִֽׁי׃ (of My holiness).

7  אֲסַפְּרָ֗ה (I will recount) אֶֽ֫ל (-) חֹ֥ק (the decree) יְֽהוָ֗ה (of YHWH);

אָמַ֘ר (He has said) אֵלַ֥י (to Me):

בְּנִ֥י (My Son) אַ֑תָּה (You are);

אֲ֝נִ֗י (I) הַיּ֥וֹם (today) יְלִדְתִּֽיךָ׃ (have begotten You).

8  שְׁאַ֤ל (Ask) מִמֶּ֗נִּי (from Me) וְאֶתְּנָ֣ה (and I will give) ג֭וֹיִם (the nations) נַחֲלָתֶ֑ךָ (as Your inheritance),

וַ֝אֲחֻזָּתְךָ֗ (and for Your possession) אַפְסֵי־ (the ends) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth).

9  תְּ֭רֹעֵם (You will break them) בְּשֵׁ֣בֶט (with a rod) בַּרְזֶ֑ל (of iron);

כִּכְלִ֖י (like a vessel) יוֹצֵ֣ר (of a potter) תְּנַפְּצֵֽם׃ (You will shatter them).

10  וְ֭עַתָּה (And now), מְלָכִ֣ים (O kings), הַשְׂכִּ֑ילוּ (be prudent);

הִ֝וָּסְר֗וּ (be admonished), שֹׁ֣פְטֵי (O judges) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth).

11  עִבְד֣וּ (Serve) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) בְּיִרְאָ֑ה (with fear),

וְ֝גִ֗ילוּ (and rejoice) בִּרְעָדָֽה׃ (with trembling).

12  נַשְּׁקוּ־ (Kiss) בַ֡ר (the Son), פֶּן־ (lest) יֶאֱנַ֤ף׀ (He be angry),

וְתֹ֬אבְדוּ (and you⁺ perish) דֶ֗רֶךְ (in the way),

כִּֽי־ (when) יִבְעַ֣ר (is kindled) כִּמְעַ֣ט (in an instant) אַפּ֑וֹ (His wrath).

אַ֝שְׁרֵ֗י (Blessed are) כָּל־ (all those) ח֥וֹסֵי (those taking refuge) בֽוֹ׃ (in Him).
