Judah and Israel Will Be Restored
1 שַׁאֲל֨וּ (Ask) מֵיְהוָ֤ה (from YHWH) מָטָר֙ (the rain) בְּעֵ֣ת (in the time) מַלְק֔וֹשׁ (of the spring rain);
יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) עֹשֶׂ֣ה (the One making) חֲזִיזִ֑ים (the storm clouds),
וּמְטַר־ (and the shower), גֶּ֙שֶׁם֙ (of rain) יִתֵּ֣ן (will He give) לָהֶ֔ם (to them)
לְאִ֖ישׁ (to each man) עֵ֥שֶׂב (the herb) בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ (in the field).
2 כִּ֧י (For) הַתְּרָפִ֣ים (the teraphim) דִּבְּרוּ־ (speak) אָ֗וֶן (delusion),
וְהַקּֽוֹסְמִים֙ (and the diviners) חָ֣זוּ (see) שֶׁ֔קֶר (deception),
וַֽחֲלֹמוֹת֙ (and dreams); הַשָּׁ֣וא (of emptiness) יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ (they speak)
הֶ֖בֶל (of in vain); יְנַֽחֵמ֑וּן (do they give comfort)
עַל־ (upon) כֵּן֙ (thus) נָסְע֣וּ (they set out) כְמוֹ־ (like) צֹ֔אן (sheep),
יַעֲנ֖וּ (they are afflicted), כִּֽי־ (because) אֵ֥ין (there is no) רֹעֶֽה׃פ (shepherd).
3 עַל־ (Against) הָֽרֹעִים֙ (the shepherds), חָרָ֣ה (is kindled) אַפִּ֔י (My anger)
וְעַל־ (and against) הָעַתּוּדִ֖ים (the he-goats); אֶפְק֑וֹד (I lay a charge)
כִּֽי־ (But) פָקַד֩ (will attend to) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֤וֹת (Hosts) אֶת־ (-) עֶדְרוֹ֙ (His flock) אֶת־ (-)
בֵּ֣ית (the house) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah),
וְשָׂ֣ם (and He will set) אוֹתָ֔ם (them)
כְּס֥וּס (as a horse) הוֹד֖וֹ (of His splendor) בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ (in the battle).
4 מִמֶּ֤נּוּ (From him is) פִנָּה֙ (the cornerstone),
מִמֶּ֣נּוּ (from him) יָתֵ֔ד (the tent peg),
מִמֶּ֖נּוּ (from him) קֶ֣שֶׁת (the bow), מִלְחָמָ֑ה (of battle)
מִמֶּ֛נּוּ (from him) יֵצֵ֥א (comes) כָל־ (every) נוֹגֵ֖שׂ (ruler) יַחְדָּֽו׃ (together).
5 וְהָי֨וּ (And they will be) כְגִבֹּרִ֜ים (like mighty ones)
בּוֹסִ֨ים (trampling) בְּטִ֤יט (in the mud) חוּצוֹת֙ (of the streets) בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה (in the battle);
וְנִ֨לְחֲמ֔וּ (and they will fight), כִּ֥י (for) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH is) עִמָּ֑ם (with them)
וְהֹבִ֖ישׁוּ (and they will put to shame) רֹכְבֵ֥י (the riders) סוּסִֽים׃ (of horses).
6 וְגִבַּרְתִּ֣י׀ (And I will strengthen) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֣ית (the house) יְהוּדָ֗ה (of Judah),
וְאֶת־ (and) בֵּ֤ית (the house) יוֹסֵף֙ (of Joseph), אוֹשִׁ֔יעַ (I will save)
וְהֽוֹשְׁבוֹתִים֙ (and I will bring them back) כִּ֣י (because) רִֽחַמְתִּ֔ים (I have compassion on them)
וְהָי֖וּ (and they will be) כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר (as though) לֹֽא־ (not) זְנַחְתִּ֑ים (I had cast them aside);
כִּ֗י (for) אֲנִ֛י (I am) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֖ם (their God),
וְאֶעֱנֵֽם׃ (and I will answer them).
7 וְהָי֤וּ (And will become) כְגִבּוֹר֙ (like a mighty one) אֶפְרַ֔יִם (Ephraim)
וְשָׂמַ֥ח (and will be glad) לִבָּ֖ם (their heart) כְּמוֹ־ (as) יָ֑יִן (with wine);
וּבְנֵיהֶם֙ (and their children) יִרְא֣וּ (will see it) וְשָׂמֵ֔חוּ (and will be glad)
יָגֵ֥ל (will rejoice) לִבָּ֖ם (their heart) בַּיהוָֽה׃ (in YHWH).
8 אֶשְׁרְקָ֥ה (I will whistle) לָהֶ֛ם (for them) וַאֲקַבְּצֵ֖ם (and gather them)
כִּ֣י (for) פְדִיתִ֑ים (I have redeem them)
וְרָב֖וּ (and they will be many)
כְּמ֥וֹ (as) רָבֽוּ׃ (they were many).
9 וְאֶזְרָעֵם֙ (And I will sow them) בָּֽעַמִּ֔ים (among the peoples),
וּבַמֶּרְחַקִּ֖ים (and in far-off places); יִזְכְּר֑וּנִי (they will remember Me)
וְחָי֥וּ (and they will live) אֶת־ (together with) בְּנֵיהֶ֖ם (their sons),
וָשָֽׁבוּ׃ (and they will return).
10 וַהֲשִֽׁיבוֹתִים֙ (And I will bring them back) מֵאֶ֣רֶץ (from the land) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt),
וּמֵֽאַשּׁ֖וּר (and from Assyria) אֲקַבְּצֵ֑ם (I will gather them)
וְאֶל־ (and to) אֶ֨רֶץ (the land) גִּלְעָ֤ד (of Gilead) וּלְבָנוֹן֙ (and Lebanon); אֲבִיאֵ֔ם (I will bring them)
וְלֹ֥א (until no place) יִמָּצֵ֖א (can be found) לָהֶֽם׃ (for them).
11 וְעָבַ֨ר (And He will pass) בַּיָּ֜ם (through the sea) צָרָ֗ה (of distress),
וְהִכָּ֤ה (and He will strike) בַיָּם֙ (of that sea), גַּלִּ֔ים (the waves)
וְהֹבִ֕ישׁוּ (and He will dry up); כֹּ֖ל (all) מְצוּל֣וֹת (the depths) יְאֹ֑ר (of the River)
וְהוּרַד֙ (and will be brought down), גְּא֣וֹן (the pride) אַשּׁ֔וּר (of Assyria)
וְשֵׁ֥בֶט (and the scepter) מִצְרַ֖יִם (of Egypt) יָסֽוּר׃ (will depart).
12 וְגִבַּרְתִּים֙ (And I will make them) בַּֽיהוָ֔ה (in YHWH);
וּבִשְׁמ֖וֹ (and in His name), יִתְהַלָּ֑כוּ (they will walk)
נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).
