It is not by your righteousness or uprightness of heart that you are going in to possess their land, but it is because of their wickedness that the LORD your God will drive out these nations before you, to keep the promise He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, He remembered Abraham, and He brought Lot out of the catastrophe that destroyed the cities where he had lived.
I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed,
And there at the top the LORD was standing and saying, "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you now lie.
Even the land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its sin, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants.
You must not worship the LORD your God in this way, because they practice for their gods every abomination which the LORD hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.
When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.
so that they cannot teach you to do all the detestable things they do for their gods and cause you to sin against the LORD your God.
Therefore, tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: 'It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you went.
It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord GOD--let it be known to you. Be ashamed and disgraced for your own ways, O house of Israel!'
