Now speak a parable to this rebellious house and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: 'Put the pot on the fire; put it on and pour in the water.

When Elisha returned to Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were sitting at his feet, he said to his attendant, "Put on the large pot and boil some stew for the sons of the prophets."
I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from of old,
Listen, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the LORD has spoken: "I have raised children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against Me.
Woe to the rebellious children, declares the LORD, to those who carry out a plan, but not Mine, who form an alliance, but against My will, heaping up sin upon sin.
These are a rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to obey the LORD's instruction.
Again the word of the LORD came to me, inquiring, "What do you see?" "I see a boiling pot," I replied, "and it is tilting away from the north."
Then the LORD said to me, "Disaster from the north will be poured out on all who live in the land.
"Son of man," He said to me: "I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To this very day the Israelites and their fathers have transgressed against Me.
But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns surround you, and you dwell among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their presence, though they are a rebellious house.
They are saying, 'Is not the time near to build houses? The city is a cooking pot, and we are the meat.'
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: The slain you have laid within this city are the meat, and the city is the pot; but I will remove you from it.
The city will not be a pot for you, nor will you be the meat within it. I will judge you even to the borders of Israel.
"Son of man, pose a riddle; speak a parable to the house of Israel
Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD, they are saying of me, 'Is he not just telling parables?'"
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: 'Woe to the city of bloodshed, to the pot now rusted, whose rust will not come off! Empty it piece by piece; cast no lots for its contents.
