because of the evil they have done. They provoked Me to anger by continuing to burn incense and to serve other gods that neither they nor you nor your fathers ever knew.

If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (which neither you nor your fathers have known,
They went and served other gods, and they worshiped gods they had not known--gods that the LORD had not given to them.
They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they had not known, to newly arrived gods, which your fathers did not fear.
You are just in all that has befallen us, because You have acted faithfully, while we have acted wickedly.
For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen because they spoke and acted against the LORD, defying His glorious presence.
Have you not brought this on yourself by forsaking the LORD your God when He led you in the way?
But am I the one they are provoking? declares the LORD. Is it not themselves they spite, to their own shame?
because they have abandoned Me and made this a foreign place. They have burned incense in it to other gods that neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have ever known. They have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.
For the children of Israel and of Judah have done nothing but evil in My sight from their youth; indeed, they have done nothing but provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the LORD.
provoking Me to anger by the work of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have gone to reside. As a result, you will be cut off and become an object of cursing and reproach among all the nations of the earth.
Because you burned incense and sinned against the LORD, and did not obey the voice of the LORD or walk in His instruction, His statutes, and His testimonies, this disaster has befallen you, as you see today."
And He said to me, "Do you see this, son of man? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and continually provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even putting the branch to their nose!
Therefore I will respond with wrath. I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout loudly in My ears, I will not listen to them."
we have sinned and done wrong. We have acted wickedly and rebelled. We have turned away from Your commandments and ordinances.
