Jeremiah 26
Peshitta Holy Bible Translated Par ▾
1In the beginning of the kingdom of Yoiqim, son of Yoshiah, King of Judea, this word was upon Jeremiah from before LORD JEHOVAH, and he said: 2“Thus says LORD JEHOVAH: ‘Stand in the court of his house of LORD JEHOVAH, and say to all the towns of Judea who come to worship in the house of LORD JEHOVAH all the words that I commanded you to say to them. You shall not subtract even one word!’ 3Perhaps they will hear and they will turn, each man, from his evil way, and I shall cease from the harm that I planned to do to them, because of the wickedness of their works 4And he said to them: ‘Thus says LORD JEHOVAH, if you will not listen to me and walk in my Law that I have given in your presence 5Nor listen to the word of my Servants, the Prophets, that I am sending to your presence (I arose early every day and I sent and you have not listened) 6I shall make this house like Shiloh, and this city I shall give as a curse to all the nations of the Earth

7And the Priests and the lying Prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah the Prophet when he spoke these words in the house of LORD JEHOVAH 8And when Jeremiah had finished saying everything that LORD JEHOVAH commanded him to say to all the people, the Priests and the lying Prophets and all the people seized him and they said, “He will be killed!” 9For he prophesied in The Name of LORD JEHOVAH and said: "This house shall be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate for lack of an inhabitant.” And all the people assembled against Jeremiah in the house of LORD JEHOVAH

10And the Princes of Judea heard these words and they came up from the house of the King to the house of LORD JEHOVAH, and they sat in the entrance of the new gate of the house of LORD JEHOVAH 11And the Priests and the lying Prophets said to the Princes and to all the people, saying; “This man owes the sentence of death, because he prophesied against this city and against its inhabitants, just like what you heard with your ears!

12And Jeremiah said to all the Princes and to all the people: “LORD JEHOVAH has sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you heard! 13And now amend your ways and your works and listen to the voice of LORD JEHOVAH, your God, and LORD JEHOVAH will cease from the evil that he spoke against you! 14And behold, I am in your hands. Do to me according to what is good and according to what is excellent in your eyes! 15However, know surely that if you kill me, it is innocent blood that you plot against yourselves and against this city and against its inhabitants, because in truth LORD JEHOVAH has sent me unto you that I would speak all these words in your ears!”

16And the Princes and all the people said to the Priests and to the lying Prophets: “This man does not owe death, because it is in the name of LORD JEHOVAH our God that he has spoken to us!” 17And the men of the Elders of the land stood, and they said to the whole multitude of the people:

18“Micah the Marshite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah, King of Judea, and said to all the people of Judea, ‘Thus says LORD JEHOVAH of Hosts, God of Israel: Zion the open country shall be led away captive and Jerusalem will be a desolation, and the Mount of the House for the place of a forest!’

19Did Hezekiah King of Judea and all Yehuda surely kill him? But they were in awe of LORD JEHOVAH and they prayed before him and LORD JEHOVAH ceased from the harm that he had spoken against them, but we seek to do great evil against our souls

20Also there was one man who prophesied in the name of LORD JEHOVAH Uriah, son of Shemaiah, from Qorith Narin, and he prophesied against this city and against this land like all the statements of Jeremiah 21And King Yoaqim and all his Servants and all of his Princes heard his statement and wanted the King to kill him, and Uriah heard and was afraid and he fled and he went on to Egypt 22And King Yoaqim sent an Egyptian man, Elnathan, son of Abakur, and the men with him to Egypt 23And they brought Uriah out from Egypt, and they brought him to King Yoaqim, and he killed him by the sword and cast his corpse to the tombs of the children of the people”

24However, the hand of Akhiqam, son of Shaphan, was with Jeremiah that he would not deliver him into the hand of the people to kill him
