Psalm 79
BSB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Berean Study BibleInternational Standard Version
A Psalm of Asaph. The nations, O God, have invaded Your inheritance; they have defiled Your holy temple and reduced Jerusalem to rubble.1God, nations have invaded your land to desecrate your holy Temple, to destroy Jerusalem,
They have given the corpses of Your servants as food to the birds of the air, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.2to give the corpses of your servants as food for the birds of the skies and the flesh of your godly ones to the beasts of the earth;
They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury the dead.3to make their blood flow like water around Jerusalem, with no one being buried.
We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to those around us.4We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and a derision to those around us.
How long, O LORD? Will You be angry forever? Will Your jealousy burn like fire?5How long, LORD, will you be angry? Forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, on the kingdoms that refuse to call on Your name,6Pour out your wrath upon the nations that do not acknowledge you, and over the kingdoms that do not call on your name.
for they have devoured Jacob and devastated his homeland.7For they consumed Jacob, making his dwelling place desolate.
Do not hold past sins against us; let Your compassion come quickly, for we are brought low.8Don't charge us for previous iniquity, but let your compassion come quickly to us, for we have been brought very low.
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; deliver us and atone for our sins, for the sake of Your name.9Help us, God, our deliverer, on account of your glorious name, deliver us and forgive our sins on account of your name.
Why should the nations ask, “Where is their God?” Before our eyes, make known among the nations Your vengeance for the bloodshed of Your servants.10Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let vengeance for the blood of your servants be meted out before our eyes and among the nations.
May the groans of the captives reach You; by the strength of Your arm preserve those condemned to death.11Let the cries of the prisoners reach you. With the strength of your power, release those condemned to death.
Pay back into the laps of our neighbors sevenfold the reproach they hurled at You, O Lord.12Pay back our neighbors seven times the reproach with which they reproached you, LORD.
Then we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, will thank You forever; from generation to generation we will declare Your praise.13Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you always, from generation to generation. We will declare your praise.
