So they brought the ark of God and placed it inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And they presented burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.1They brought the ark of God and put it in the middle of the tent David had pitched for it. Then they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
When David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.2When David finished offering burnt sacrifices and peace offerings, he pronounced a blessing over the people in the LORD's name.
Then he distributed to every man and woman of Israel a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake.3He then handed out to each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake.
David appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to celebrate, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel.4He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to offer prayers, songs of thanks, and hymns to the LORD God of Israel.
Asaph was the chief, Zechariah was second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel. They were to play the harps and lyres, while Asaph sounded the cymbals5Asaph was the leader and Zechariah second in command, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. They were to play stringed instruments; Asaph was to sound the cymbals;
and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel blew the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.6and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of God's covenant.
On that day David first committed to Asaph and his brothers this song of thanksgiving to the LORD:7That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the LORD:
“Give thanks to the LORD; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the nations.8Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations!
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; tell of all His wonders.9Sing to him! Make music to him! Tell about all his miraculous deeds!
Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.10Boast about his holy name! Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
Seek out the LORD and His strength; seek His face always.11Seek the LORD and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually!
Remember the wonders He has done, His marvels, and the judgments He has pronounced,12Recall the miraculous deeds he performed, his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed,
O offspring of His servant Israel, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones.13O children of Israel, God's servant, you descendants of Jacob, God's chosen ones!
He is the LORD our God; His judgments carry throughout the earth.14He is the LORD our God; he carries out judgment throughout the earth.
Remember His covenant forever, the word He ordained for a thousand generations—15Remember continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations--
the covenant He made with Abraham, and the oath He swore to Isaac.16the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac!
He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:17He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise,
‘I will give you the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.’18saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance."
When they were few in number, few indeed, and strangers in the land,19When they were few in number, just a very few, and foreign residents within it,
they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.20they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another.
He let no man oppress them; He rebuked kings on their behalf:21He let no one oppress them, he disciplined kings for their sake,
‘Do not touch My anointed ones! Do no harm to My prophets!’22saying, "Don't touch my anointed ones! Don't harm my prophets!"
Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Proclaim His salvation day after day.23Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Announce every day how he delivers!
Declare His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all peoples.24Tell the nations about his splendor, tell all the nations about his miraculous deeds!
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.25For the LORD is great and certainly worthy of praise, he is more awesome than all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols, but it is the LORD who made the heavens.26For all the gods of the nations are worthless, but the LORD made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy fill His dwelling.27Majestic splendor emanates from him, he is the source of strength and joy.
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.28Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD splendor and strength!
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering and come before Him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness;29Ascribe to the LORD the splendor he deserves! Bring an offering and enter his presence! Worship the LORD in holy attire!
tremble before Him, all the earth. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.30Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is established, it cannot be moved.
Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice. Let them say among the nations, ‘The LORD reigns!’31Let the heavens rejoice, and the earth be happy! Let the nations say, 'The LORD reigns!'
Let the sea resound, and all that fills it; let the fields exult, and all that is in them.32Let the sea and everything in it shout! Let the fields and everything in them celebrate!
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth.33Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth!
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His loving devotion endures forever.34Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good and his loyal love endures.
Then cry out: ‘Save us, O God of our salvation; gather and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.’35Say this prayer: "Deliver us, O God who delivers us! Gather us! Rescue us from the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds."
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.” Then all the people said, “Amen!” and “Praise the LORD!”36May the LORD God of Israel be praised, in the future and forevermore. Then all the people said, "We agree! Praise the LORD!"
So David left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to minister there regularly according to the daily requirements,37David left Asaph and his colleagues there before the ark of the LORD's covenant to serve before the ark regularly and fulfill each day's requirements,
along with Obed-edom and his sixty-eight relatives. Obed-edom son of Jeduthun, and also Hosah, were to be gatekeepers.38including Obed-Edom and sixty-eight colleagues. Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were gatekeepers.
And David left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon39Zadok the priest and his fellow priests served before the LORD's tabernacle at the worship center in Gibeon,
to regularly present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offerings, morning and evening, according to all that was written in the Law of the LORD, which He had commanded Israel to keep.40regularly offering burnt sacrifices to the LORD on the altar for burnt sacrifice, morning and evening, according to what is prescribed in the law of the LORD which he charged Israel to observe.
With them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD, for “His loving devotion endures forever.”41Joining them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD. (For his loyal love endures!)
Heman and Jeduthun had with them trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments for the songs of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were stationed at the gate.42Heman and Jeduthun were in charge of the music, including the trumpets, cymbals, and the other musical instruments used in praising God. The sons of Jeduthun guarded the entrance.
Then all the people departed for their homes, and David returned home to bless his household.43Then all the people returned to their homes, and David went to pronounce a blessing on his family.
