Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right.1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise,2Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Fathers, don't stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.4And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as you would Christ.5Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Don't work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, do God's will from your heart.6Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to people,7With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord.8Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
And masters, treat your slaves the same way, without threatening them, because you know that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.9And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength.10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest,14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit--which is the word of God.17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.19And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should.20For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Tychicus, our dearly loved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me so that you may be informed.21But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:
I am sending him to you for this very reason, to let you know how we are and to encourage your hearts.22Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.23Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace be with all who have undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ.24Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
