LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night.1A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:
May my prayer reach your presence; listen to my cry.2Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;
For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol.3For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
I am counted among those going down to the Pit. I am like a man without strength,4I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:
abandoned among the dead. I am like the slain lying in the grave, whom you no longer remember, and who are cut off from your care.5Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.
You have put me in the lowest part of the Pit, in the darkest places, in the depths.6Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
Your wrath weighs heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. Selah7Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
You have distanced my friends from me; you have made me repulsive to them. I am shut in and cannot go out.8Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to you all day long; I spread out my hands to you.9Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
Do you work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise you? Selah10Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.
Will your faithful love be declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Abaddon?11Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?
Will your wonders be known in the darkness or your righteousness in the land of oblivion?12Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
But I call to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer meets you.13But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
LORD, why do you reject me? Why do you hide your face from me?14LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
From my youth, I have been suffering and near death. I suffer your horrors; I am desperate.15I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
Your wrath sweeps over me; your terrors destroy me.16Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
They surround me like water all day long; they close in on me from every side.17They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.
You have distanced loved one and neighbor from me; darkness is my only friend.18Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.
