Oppose my opponents, LORD; fight those who fight me.1A Psalm of David. Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; Fight against those who fight against me.
Take your shields--large and small--and come to my aid.2Take hold of buckler and shield And rise up for my help.
Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers, and assure me: "I am your deliverance."3Draw also the spear and the battle-axe to meet those who pursue me; Say to my soul, "I am your salvation."
Let those who intend to take my life be disgraced and humiliated; let those who plan to harm me be turned back and ashamed.4Let those be ashamed and dishonored who seek my life; Let those be turned back and humiliated who devise evil against me.
Let them be like chaff in the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them away.5Let them be like chaff before the wind, With the angel of the LORD driving them on.
Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them.6Let their way be dark and slippery, With the angel of the LORD pursuing them.
They hid their net for me without cause; they dug a pit for me without cause.7For without cause they hid their net for me; Without cause they dug a pit for my soul.
Let ruin come on him unexpectedly, and let the net that he hid ensnare him; let him fall into it--to his ruin.8Let destruction come upon him unawares, And let the net which he hid catch himself; Into that very destruction let him fall.
Then I will rejoice in the LORD; I will delight in his deliverance.9And my soul shall rejoice in the LORD; It shall exult in His salvation.
All my bones will say, "LORD, who is like you, rescuing the poor from one too strong for him, the poor or the needy from one who robs him?"10All my bones will say, "LORD, who is like You, Who delivers the afflicted from him who is too strong for him, And the afflicted and the needy from him who robs him?"
Malicious witnesses come forward; they question me about things I do not know.11Malicious witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I do not know.
They repay me evil for good, making me desolate.12They repay me evil for good, To the bereavement of my soul.
Yet when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting, and my prayer was genuine.13But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, And my prayer kept returning to my bosom.
I went about mourning as if for my friend or brother; I was bowed down with grief, like one mourning for a mother.14I went about as though it were my friend or brother; I bowed down mourning, as one who sorrows for a mother.
But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; they gathered against me. Assailants I did not know tore at me and did not stop.15But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; The smiters whom I did not know gathered together against me, They slandered me without ceasing.
With godless mockery they gnashed their teeth at me.16Like godless jesters at a feast, They gnashed at me with their teeth.
Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue me from their ravages; rescue my precious life from the young lions.17Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, My only life from the lions.
I will praise you in the great assembly; I will exalt you among many people.18I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty throng.
Do not let my deceitful enemies rejoice over me; do not let those who hate me without cause wink at me maliciously.19Do not let those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; Nor let those who hate me without cause wink maliciously.
For they do not speak in friendly ways, but contrive fraudulent schemes against those who live peacefully in the land.20For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.
They open their mouths wide against me and say, "Aha, aha! We saw it!"21They opened their mouth wide against me; They said, "Aha, aha, our eyes have seen it!"
You saw it, LORD; do not be silent. Lord, do not be far from me.22You have seen it, O LORD, do not keep silent; O Lord, do not be far from me.
Wake up and rise to my defense, to my cause, my God and my Lord!23Stir up Yourself, and awake to my right And to my cause, my God and my Lord.
Vindicate me, LORD my God, in keeping with your righteousness, and do not let them rejoice over me.24Judge me, O LORD my God, according to Your righteousness, And do not let them rejoice over me.
Do not let them say in their hearts, "Aha! Just what we wanted." Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up!"25Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha, our desire!" Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up!"
Let those who rejoice at my misfortune be disgraced and humiliated; let those who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and reproach.26Let those be ashamed and humiliated altogether who rejoice at my distress; Let those be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves over me.
Let those who want my vindication shout for joy and be glad; let them continually say, "The LORD be exalted. He takes pleasure in his servant's well-being."27Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant."
And my tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praise all day long.28And my tongue shall declare Your righteousness And Your praise all day long.
