| 23And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. | 23Then he told all of them, "If anyone wants to come with me, he must deny himself, pick up his cross every day, and follow me continuously, |

| 28Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. | 28Now about eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John, and James with him and went up on a mountain to pray. |

| 33And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let's set up three shelters —one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." (Peter didn't know what he was saying.) |

| 43And all were astonished at the majesty of God. | 44“Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.” | 44"Listen carefully to these words. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands." |
| 45But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying. | 45But they didn't know what this meant. Indeed, the meaning was hidden from them so that they didn't understand it; and they were afraid to ask him about this statement. |
| 46An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest. | 46Later, an argument started among the disciples as to which of them might be the greatest. |
