Psalm 88
HCSB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
A song. A psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director: according to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite. LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before You day and night. 1O LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out day and night before you.
May my prayer reach Your presence; listen to my cry. 2Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry!
For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol. 3For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.
I am counted among those going down to the Pit. I am like a man without strength, 4I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am a man who has no strength,
abandoned among the dead. I am like the slain lying in the grave, whom You no longer remember, and who are cut off from Your care. 5like one set loose among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand.
You have put me in the lowest part of the Pit, in the darkest places, in the depths. 6You have put me in the depths of the pit, in the regions dark and deep.
Your wrath weighs heavily on me; You have overwhelmed me with all Your waves. Selah 7Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves. Selah
You have distanced my friends from me; You have made me repulsive to them. I am shut in and cannot go out. 8You have caused my companions to shun me; you have made me a horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape;
My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to You all day long; I spread out my hands to You. 9my eye grows dim through sorrow. Every day I call upon you, O LORD; I spread out my hands to you.
Do You work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise You? Selah 10Do you work wonders for the dead? Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah
Will Your faithful love be declared in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon? 11Is your steadfast love declared in the grave, or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
Will Your wonders be known in the darkness or Your righteousness in the land of oblivion? 12Are your wonders known in the darkness, or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
But I call to You for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer meets You. 13But I, O LORD, cry to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you.
LORD, why do You reject me? Why do You hide Your face from me? 14O LORD, why do you cast my soul away? Why do you hide your face from me?
From my youth, I have been afflicted and near death. I suffer Your horrors; I am desperate. 15Afflicted and close to death from my youth up, I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.
Your wrath sweeps over me; Your terrors destroy me. 16Your wrath has swept over me; your dreadful assaults destroy me.
They surround me like water all day long; they close in on me from every side. 17They surround me like a flood all day long; they close in on me together.
You have distanced loved one and neighbor from me; darkness is my only friend. 18You have caused my beloved and my friend to shun me; my companions have become darkness.
